Track and trace question

So, someone I work with had a positive test. I haven't been in work so I'm not personally at risk, but nobody at the workplace (a small shop) has had any notification from track and trace telling them to self isolate. Everyone has to check in on the app, so why is this? Is it that they don't have to isolate, or just the system being crap? I'm pretty sure from what I have read that anyone who's had contact with the infected person for two days prior to symptoms should isolate, and this will mean the shop closes, but nobody else seems to agree!

When did they test positive? Test and trace should contact them to get close contact details and then T&T is supposed to contact those people. The person testing positive also gets a code from T&T that they input in the app and the that notifies others with the app that were in close contact with them.

Tested positive today. Does it take a while for them to get contacted?

Think track and trace are very slow. Could be 3-4 days before you hear anything

Alldayeveryday200 · 27/10/2020 19:40

From positive test result to being notified took 27 hours here

whatapileofshite · 27/10/2020 19:41

Meanwhile dozens of contacts are swanning about potentially spreading the virus without a care in the world 🤦‍♀️

Have they imputed where they've been. You have to do it yourself. I thought the app did it automatically but it doesn't.

StatisticalSense · 27/10/2020 20:00

Well, I would hope that there isn't a singular person who has had the required level of contact with dozens of people in a 48 hour period, and if there is your colleague was taking the piss. The level of contact required for someone to be considered a contact is either close contact within a meter or being within 2 meters for more than 15 minutes, which quite frankly would suggest poor practice if it meant several colleagues were required to isolate in a shop environment.

StatisticalSense · 27/10/2020 20:03

For reference if each person testing positive had a dozen (not dozens which would usually mean at least 30-40 contacts) they'd have been over 2,000,000 people isolating from the cases in the past 2 days which is clearly not even close to sustainable or useful.

NotAKaren · 27/10/2020 20:10

Your workplace should notify close contacts out of a duty of care to employees. Those employees that know they have been in contact should take responsibility and understand the need to isolate without the need for a call from Track and Trace. It's not rocket science.

Covidcovidcovid · 27/10/2020 20:12

Were they socially distanced?

Guidance here

www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-contacts-of-people-with-possible-or-confirmed-coronavirus-covid-19-infection-who-do-not-live-with-the-person/guidance-for-contacts-of-people-with-possible-or-confirmed-coronavirus-covid-19-infection-who-do-not-live-with-the-person

Your colleagues and workplace should be able to determine the level of contact themselves and should isolate if necessary without relying on others to tell them what to do.

We had a sales assistant test positive , he was asked if we use ppe as we physically cant stay 2mtrs apart, we do so none of us had to self isolate.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/10/2020 21:18

I was concerned about my colleges, but was told as long as we'd been wearing masks it was ok. My student has it though.

whatapileofshite · 28/10/2020 12:21

We wear those plastic visors but I don't think they are adequate, I wear a mask as well but others don't.

It's confusing isn't it. I had this not long after the app was launched, the app told me to self isolate as I had been in contact with someone who had tested positive, and the colleague phoned me to say (we were sat apart but had a 3 hour meeting with one other person) that they had a positive test. He had passed details onto track and trace but no one made contact. I isolated because the app said to and it seemed sensible, but I could WFH so wasn't too bad.
