@Rabbitholebonkers

Yep it IS depressing. The whole point of going to a football match is to enjoy the crowd and the atmosphere. My husband and sons are really missing it. Yes there’s other hardships going on but so what? Didn’t realise it was a competition.
I agree. I go with my 20 year old son, we have season tickets, and we’re missing it so much. Watching on TV isn’t the same and it definitely isn’t the same without supporters in the stands.

I know back in the Summer, when the plan was to allow some supporters back in from October, one of our local Premier League clubs contacted season ticket holders to ask them to nominate people in their bubble who they go to matches with so that they could be seated together.

Trut · 27/10/2020 19:11

I like the space between people, would suit me just fine 😃

Sb2012 · 27/10/2020 19:25

@KrakowDawn

Oh dear. How sad. People can't watch other people kick a ball around... Hmm

I think there are many worse hardships people are facing at present.

@Sb2012 see my comment about oneupmanship. Should we all be miserable?

I totally agree OP it's very depressing. The joy really has been sucked out of life. I hope we get it back but it feels like we're on a slippery slope. I watched a bit of the Ellen show lately on YouTube with her virtual audience. I found it creepy and horrible.

Gosh, that is creepy!
MaxNormal · 27/10/2020 19:55

I don't even like football but yes thats depressing. Yes there's objectively worse tragedies but that picture really typifies the sheer grey joylessness that is life now.

Sb2012 · 27/10/2020 21:54

But u didn’t make that clear in your initial post. All you did was post the image and caption it with so depressing. I agree we as humans are meant to socialise and enjoy each other’s company. I come from a large family and I miss our weekly get togethers as a whole family with my parents siblings and their kids. Just enjoying each other’s company. Haven’t seen them like that since March. In that time I’ve had a baby after 2 still births, my sister’s eldest has been diagnosed with mental health issues at the age of 13 and my brother’s son was involved in a car accident. It kills me that I can’t be with them as families should be, to support and share our joys and pains together.
However, the way you put your first message across made me and probably others think you were sad at not being able to sit together at a football match and in the grand scheme of things that would be right at the bottom of many people’s priority list.

Exactly, but anything to do with football on MN was going to attract these replies.
FedHimtoTigers1990 · 28/10/2020 01:08

Its a step forward...

kittensarecute · 28/10/2020 01:39

Social distancing is cruel and goes against everything that makes us human. The joy has gone from life and I am done.

1forAll74 · 28/10/2020 02:03

Its' not depressing, it just looks a little odd that's all, and has to be done like this for the time being.

Topseyt · 28/10/2020 02:23

Yes, it is depressing in that it looks unnatural, bizarre and silly.

I suppose it is a step forward that they can get in to see the match at all though.

countrygirl99 · 28/10/2020 06:46

Just because something isn't what you enjoy doesn't stop it being depressing for people who do. Personally they could ban TV and it wouldn't affect be one iota but I have sufficient awareness of other people to see that others would be very upset. I'm not a football fan but I can see that arrangement sucking the fun out of going to a live match.

likeamillpond · 28/10/2020 07:03

@FatGirlShrinking

I'm finding the 367 deaths reported today significantly more depressing that social distanced football watching if I'm completely honest.

Actually if I'm completely honest I couldn't care less if people are able to watch a load of over paid, over privileged men run around a piece of grass kicking a ball.

I think it looks weird and odd OP and I get that feeling every time I look at the people on a bus or go to a supermarket. I can't get over the fact that this is the way we have to live now.

Not forever it isn't. People need to stop talking about this as if it is permanent, it is not permanent, it is a temporary measure. TEMPORARY.
Dollywilde · 28/10/2020 10:11

I’m depressed about the football. I’m also depressed at having had a baby in the pandemic and suffering from PND in lockdown. I can recognise it’s not a competition, the whole things shit and a bit of solidarity goes a long way at the moment. Anyone remember #bekind?

Twistered · 28/10/2020 10:17

OP I totally agree with you . That picture just says something powerful.
Yes it's only football.
Yes there are worse stark pictures
Yes there are lots of suffering
But that picture you have shared has touched a nerve with me about how regimented everything is. How unsocial everything is. How just fucking shit this is.

Twistered · 28/10/2020 10:25

Yesterday 17:29SunshineCake

If people had followed the rules better, this wouldn't be the situation.

What people and what rules?
Do you mean Borris and his shaking hands, Cummings and his travelling, Hancock not social distancing?
Do the mean the rules about not needing a mask at the start, not going to work, going to work and getting back out there, staying in or eating out to help out, the rule of 6 inside or outside or upside down? No travelling in your own country but flights coming in and out ?

Hmm
loobyloo1234 · 28/10/2020 10:28

Its very sad OP. Im not sure why there are 'who cares about football' type replies though as it's clear you mean what it represents. An inhumane, non contact way of life for the foreseeable. If that doesn't depress you then good luck to you all

onedayinthefuture · 28/10/2020 10:39

It is sad, there's nothing like a full stadium cheering on a game.

Yes, I can relate to this.
toolatetooearly · 28/10/2020 11:00

Looks ok to me? They're watching a game!

onedayinthefuture · 28/10/2020 11:02

Look at this. Full on life.
