From 14 days to a possible 7 is being considered by the government .

I’ve been fully on board so far, head down following the rules, but now I just feel like what’s the point? What I mean is I’ll still follow the rules but I’ve reached the “whatever” stage.
It feels like such a farce.

Dd tested positive. On day 10 of isolation I woke up with no taste or smell. Got my positive result today so we reset from wed.

Dh and I only get ssp and it wouldn't cross my mind to not isolate for the 10/14 days.
Didnt actually realise I was in a minority!

Isn't it just who you starts 10 days now? Your DD is still her 10 days, and the rest of the household is still 14 from your DD having symptoms?

There are examples on the government website but from memory it's:-

DD isolates from start of symptoms, day 1 to day 10.

PP developed symptoms so has to isolate for 10 days after so in PP case that is now day 1 to day 20 as they had symptoms on day 10.

Others in household who do not develop any symptoms isolate from day 1 to day 14.

Surely this is a good thing. The compliance to 14 days is a huge part of the problem. I can't remember the stat but something ridiculous like 20% folllow

Sunflowers246 · 25/10/2020 16:32

I think it's even lower, at 10% actually. No point having a rule that isn't followed.

OneInEight · 25/10/2020 16:37

How ridiculous. Surely, quarantine was set at 14 days because people are potentially infectious for 14 days - this doesn't get any shorter because quarantine is inconvenient for people. Let's forget science led. We all know it's who shouts the loudest led.

CrappleUmble · 25/10/2020 16:42

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

It won’t help a bit and cases will rise given the scientist say 14 for incubation.

If people are selfish enough not to comply with 14 days they aren’t suddenly going to develop a conscious if it’s seven days instead. If they cared about the spread and others they would simply comply in the first place.

I expect that gave you a warm feeling of righteousness to type, but back in the real world, lots of people are simply not in a position to manage 14 days isolation but could stretch to 7.

No, it's about being realistic. If the stats suggest that the majority will not self-isolate for 14 days, and if the evidence is that in most cases, the incubation period is likely to be under 7 days, then reducing the quarantine period might be better way of ensuring compliance when people are much more likely to be infectious.

14 days isn't magical either. I'm sure there have been cases of people still being infectious after 15 or 17 days. All such figures are somewhat arbitrary, so it makes sense to review them, taking into account real world implications, not just abstract 'science'.

sashagabadon · 25/10/2020 16:45

I think this sounds sensible if it increases compliance. Hopefully it applies to teachers too and school kids

Rowgtfc72 · 25/10/2020 17:00

@covetingthepreciousthings from what we can gather and I'm sure track and trace will put me straight when they start stalking us again, we all reset to day 1 of symptoms. Which just seems silly. Dd is now well out of her 10 days and dh didnt manage to catch it from her and today is his 14th day. What's to say I hadn't had it before I showed symptoms? Weve taken a massive hit wage rise as were just above min wage and on ssp now. I work with a lady whose husband has CF. I'd never forgive myself if he got it.
