How do you know you're safe to go out?

I tested positive on the 20th.

T&T say 10 days isolating from first noticed symptom which was the Friday before.

But how do you know you're "safe" ?

Well the ten days is the proven period after which infectiousness drops hugely. If you're still feeling really rough, coughing loads or have a temperature, stay home.

Does that help?

MasksGlovesSoapScrubs · 24/10/2020 22:00

So you haven't even done the 10 days yet anyway?

InvisibleToEveryone · 24/10/2020 22:05

No not done the 10 days yet, but I want to know how do you know that after 10 days you're not contagious etc.

Just seems a bit weird, tested positive then 10 days later assumption is ok to go out again.
No test or anything to say if negative or still positive.

@Augustbreeze a bit thanks.

The cough can last for weeks and so can loss of taste/smell. If you are free of temperature for 48 hours after the 10 days then you can go out. If not free of that then stay in

InvisibleToEveryone · 24/10/2020 22:19

@dementedpixie, I haven't had a temperature at all though🤷‍♀️

Which is why I'm wondering what the process is.

Thanks

You can quite often test positive after ten days but it doesn't mean you're infectious, the research shows. So there's no point in retesting.

I know, it's a bit mind-boggling!

Aragog · 24/10/2020 22:23

If you don't have a temperature you can go out, according to my hospital doctor.

My 10 days were up a couple of days ago. Although I'm not fully recovered I didn't go out today - took Dd back to university (her Si was up) and had lunch out.

I still have a bit of a cough. I'm still very tired and still get out of breath easily. By the time I got home I was fit for nothing but pjs and rest.

But I'm apparently no longer contagious and not a risk to others.

I only ever had a temperature (37.8) for about a hour or two 11 days ago.

dementedpixie · 24/10/2020 22:25

Once your 10 days are up you can go out then

RoseAndRose · 24/10/2020 22:30

10 days, provided that you are no longer running a temperature (unmedicated) and cough has subsided

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 24/10/2020 22:34

It's really difficult isn't it. And not always obvious. Given some people find it comes and goes before your body conquers it can be hard to judge. I went out after nearly a month and after it came back twice for a day or two, with the shivers and temp etc.

InvisibleToEveryone · 24/10/2020 22:45

It is hard. Yes.

I feel bad enough I've caught it from god knows where, so my whole family have to isolate.

You test positive, get told to isolate and then nothing!

I think it's hard isnt it .I guess you can only follow the advise. I didnt go out for a month as just wasnt well enough, but my GP also kept telling me to stay at home as well..but this was a few months ago and they were probably just been overly cautious.

miimblemomble · 25/10/2020 04:42

If you have a fever, you have to wait for that to subside properly, then two days clear to make sure it’s gone.

If you didn’t have a fever, isolate for 10 days from the positive test, then you can come out of isolation.

It’s possible to have false positive tests for several weeks after you no longer have it, due to dead / inactive viral RNA being present in yr respiratory system.
