Garden heater for a covid winter

notevenat20 · 24/10/2020 15:54

My parents won't come inside the house until covid is no more and so we see them in the garden. I think we now need a garden heater so they can keep coming round over winter. Can anyone recommend one? When I look online I see lots of options but mostly they have no reviews or mostly negative reviews.

Then we will just have to find days it isn't raining.

Get some nice rugs and hot water bottles instead would be my advice. They are unreliable and terrible for the environment.

Fire pit, or rugs and hot water bottles

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/10/2020 16:02

Definitely go for coats, hats, blankets and hot water bottles.
Buy everyone heated socks for Christmas!
You can’t heat an unenclosed outdoor area effectively. You’ll spend a fortune and still be cold. And they’re definitely not good for the environment.

What others have said. They don’t really work and are bad for the environment.

Genius! I'll investigate the fire pit too.

Any fire pit recommendations? My garden is small (5m by 4?).

I have a kadai fire bowl and absolutely love it! Got the tripod and bowl for cooking curries over it, which is great fun, then we sit around the fire afterwards eating and talking or just gazing into the cosy flames.

Thanks!

Heated socks and hot water bottles sound good. Also how about those hand warmers that you crack to warm up and then boil afterwards to reactivate?

Please don’t investigate fire pits or any other smoky/burning options unless you are living a distance away from any neighbours. It’s awful round near us (dense housing area) with people lighting outdoor fires constantly. Stinks of smoke every day to the extent you can’t put any washing out or have windows open. Rubbish for people with asthma - let alone anyone having breathing issues due to Covid. Might be cosy for the people lighting the fire but if someone is doing it every day it really impacts on neighbours.

We’ve got a nice fire ‘oven’ with front door as well as a fire pit. The ‘oven’ is much better at keeping you warm. My DD has six friends over for her 21st last month and they sat outside around it for hours chatting.

It’s been sitting there for years unloved, because nobody could be bothered to randomly sit in cold garden but now it’s coming into its own.

Heated throws and an extension cable. Much warmer and better for the environment.

We bought some large outdoor halogen garden heaters which are weatherproof and also very powerful. The cover a massive range in terms of the heat emitted. We bought them 4 years ago and still work perfectly. They come with remote controls so can be switched on from inside. We have 3 large breed outdoor dogs so needed them for that reason. Bought them from an online store and service was great too. I can give you the name of the store if u like.

Asthma sufferer here and chimney smoke is awful for me. Agree with a pp about fire pits not being great in dense housing areas, also patio heaters being terrible for the environment.

I don't think fires in tiny gardens in built up areas are a better idea.

Baffled, keep the dogs indoors, why would you heat the outside. Dreadful for the environment, can't believe they still exist.
