I live in a tier 2 area and have booked an indoor activity in a tier 1 area for this week. This was booked weeks ago before tiers were a thing. We’re only 1 mile from the activity (we live right on the border). I told my friend (who lives on the tier 1 side of the border) who asked if I would mind if she booked the same session and we could have a catch up whilst there.

Am I now not able to go to the play centre because somebody I know has booked the same session and it would class as meeting socially?

The restrictions follow you, so no you shouldn’t do this as a tier 2 person.

I think you can technically go if you don’t socialise (I believe the advice not to travel is merely advice not law). Presumably since you booked before friend you are happy to go alone, so you could go and warn your friend you can do no more than wave at her from a distance.

I’m aware that restrictions follow me and know I would be allowed to go if alone, which is what I had originally planned. Am more than happy to go and wave at friend from a distance and not socialise at all, just not sure if this would technically be allowed.

But why would you go? If everyone from tier 2 travels to tier 1 indoor activities, they clearly won’t remain tier 1 for long will they? Why not do the right thing instead of what you can technically get away with?

KitKatastrophe · 24/10/2020 09:18

Yes it would be allowed. If you booked it and got there and a friend had coincidentally booked the same time, would you turn around and walk out?

I met my parents socially. I happened to bump into them in the same cafe and we sat 2m apart.

Organised venues where you happen to be attending the same session as a friend are allowed in tier 1 and 2. In tier 2 though you shouldn't be sitting with her etc tho. Keep your 2m and enjoy your day.

I haven't seen my dad for a couple of weeks even tho he lives really close. We just happened to be on the same train the other day though which was lovely and had a little chat.

That can’t be right. I’m in tier 1 so am allowed to visit my tier 3 son? I don’t think so.
Northernsoullover · 24/10/2020 10:23

@Looneytune253 I'm happy seeing them out even from a distance. We can't even do that at the moment (Wales).

If there is a mix of tiers you're meant to abide by the higher tier rules.

So I'm meeting my friend tomorrow, when it was arranged she was tier 2 & I was 1 so we still had to meet outside even though I could meet fellow tier oners indoors.
