When family have different views

Not sure how to deal with a family situation. In laws in 70s. Want to see the DC (and me) over half term.

In an area where it is ok to meet indoors (rule of 6, their 1) as are they.

However there have been covid cases in school, DC a bit 'cold'y but not specific symptoms to test.

MIL giving me a bit of a hard time for being concerned about coming over to see them. It would need to be indoors as FIL is bedridden with serious lung condition!

I guess it is their choice really if that is the risk they want to take. But not very fair n the DC if the grandparents do catch it off them.

Does anyone else have similar and how do you deal with it?

I feel very sorry for older people being denied time with grandchildren. If you have a clear conscience about not testing the DC for the cold symptoms, and have given full disclosure to the grandparents (which all sounds to be the case), then I think it is OK to visit if the grandparents insist. I would personally be a bit worried about bringing a possible cold to FIL in his condition. Should the grandparents subsequently catch the cold and it turns out to be covid then everyone will feel utterly awful, of course, but I would sincerely hope the children would not be told in quite such stark terms that a grandparent caught their disease (apart from anything else, how could it be proven?)

Thanks. Well, if they did get tested I guess it would mean anyone in 'close contact' would need to isolate but may not have to get tested...oh I don't know it is just a bit stressful

Yes it is their decision, they might not have long left. One has a embolism, and is on oxygen as it is

Would it be possibly to wait till the cold symptoms have gone and then visit? I think that's what I would do.

At the end of the day, I think grandparents are (mostly) capable of making their own risk assesment of the situation and deciding if they want to see grandchildren.

This situation could go on for a long time, and if they possibly don't have long left with their health as it is they may regret not seeing them more.

That is what they suggested, maybe it will have gone in a day or two. They've had an odd sneezy thing for weeks now but generally seem OK.
