I apologise, I am ranting on here as if i rant in real life I won’t stop and I will end up crying!

I’m a teacher in an sen school. There is no social distancing, no PPE. I’m kicked, licked and everything else in between on a regular basis. There’s limited cleaning and frequent crossing of bubbles etc. I do it because it is my job and I realise the chidlren need to be in school etc etc. I do it without complaining and with a smile on my face.

It’s now half term. My 12 year old has developed a cough. I know it’s because of his asthma but I did the right thing and took him for a test. It’s come back negative. I phoned my gp to ask to speak to an asthma nurse about change in his medication as he’s really suffering. I was told that I couldn’t have an appointment due to to Covid but I may be able to get a call later. But maybe not as they’re busy with Covid. I asked what should I do in the meantime and was told if he gets really bad he needs to go to a&e!

I also asked about my 14 year olds spot medication and how to get a repeat. I was told due to Covid I couldn’t speak to anyone and had to write to them. I asked for email address and they said I had to send it by post as they can’t answer email due to Covid????? I said i would drop a note through their door post box and was told no - only by post otherwise it’s too dangerous.

What. The. Fuck

My mother’s GP tried to stop her having a vitamin B12 injection because blood tests showed her levels were ok. Yes, they were okay due to 3 monthly injections! She has no stomach so has to have injections for the rest of her life. This has taken several phone calls to sort out after they did blood tests that weren’t even needed. This has all been done without a doctor even phoning and speaking to my mother at all.

@Delta1 Thank you x The more I come to terms with it the more it angers me. They were criminally negligent with him, We were not allowed to see him in hospital at all despite the fact he lost all capacity.
We only got to see him on the day he passed away. They had also closed all the hospices so he was in a normal ward.

@hellsbells99 Our surgery contacted all B12 patients as the first wave was starting and arranged oral therapy for those who could manage it and the practice nurses taught others how to self inject

hellsbells99 · 29/10/2020 00:28

@IvorHughJarrs that is interesting. My mother has had her injection since March given to her by a district nurse who has come to her house. She was in the shielded group, lives on her own and cannot drive. Oral would be no good as she cannot absorb it and I doubt whether she would be able to self inject.

Hellbells99 I started with pain & numbness in my feet a year ago, made an appointment with the doctor but when I got there the doctor wasted the who appointment talking about my thyroid medication. When I managed to get a word in edgeways & tried to tell them I had come about my feet, I got told your time is up, make another appointment. I couldn't get another appointment until after Christmas, by then I was numb up to my knees, the doctor was very dismissive, told me to book for blood tests & that I may have to learn to live with it. The appointment for my bloods took 6 weeks, my B12 was 154 (critically low) I got told everything was normal. I got really angry & asked for a private appointment with a neurologist, my appointment was March 30, when Covid kicked in it was cancelled. I finally got to speak to the neurologist on the phone in July, he immediately moved me to his NHS clinic. When I saw him he booked me in for MRI of my head & spine & Nerve conduction studies. I had some bloods done when I went for my head MRI, two hours later my consultant rang me as my B12 was unreadable, he contacted my GP to start B12 injections, I was also numb from hips downwards by this point & unable to walk. It took my GP a month to organise the injections, I only got six, not one every other day until my symptoms improved as per Nice guidelines. A couple of weeks later I got a phone call from the surgery, apparently I didn't need any more. I had my nerve conduction studies yesterday, the nerve damage in my legs is so bad that I may never get the feeling back, I'm waiting for a wheelchair to be delivered now. I joined a B12 group on Facebook, I started self injecting B12 on Saturday, I buy it myself from Germany, each injection costs about 65p. Don't let your mum suffer, join a group & get her self injecting, it isn't worth the hassle. I have engaged a solicitor, I am going to take my GP surgery to court, my solicitor says I have a case for compensation, I need to move house, need adaptions & most likely will be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life.

I have changed my children’s drs since lockdown due to the experience I had. My dd was eating less and less until she stopped eating all together. She became weaker and weaker and every time I called the drs they called me back listened to me then spoke to her who obviously told them she was fine and not hungry today so they said just to keep an eye. I eventually managed to persuade them to take me a bit seriously they let her come in for a blood test and when it came back with a lot of low readings the dr called and spoke to her first then told me it was probably due to heavy periods and she’s told them she’s eating so it’s fine. I pointed out the most she would eat was half a weetabix but they told me she had said she ate when I wasn’t around. Which was ridiculous as it was lockdown and we live in a small flat so I know what she’s doing.

The same day she fainted so I took her to the hospital where she was admitted for two weeks with anorexia and a very slow heart rate. I feel awful I didn’t take her sooner but still feel we were massively let down by the doctors. They were just taking her word for everything and as they never saw her didn’t realise how bad she was.

This is crazy! Our GP can be a pain in the arse but I'm actually surprised that they have been quite accommodating during Covid. Repeat prescriptions can be emailed and they are always in the chemist by the next day. You can be seen if you feel it's needed or want reassurance about something. My DP has severe asthma and I know how you feel OP. He's been dreadfully ill with his asthma and been hospitalised 3 times for it.
Hope you get the answers you need. This just doesn't seem right they still have a duty of care.

Roselilly36 · 29/10/2020 07:18

Totally ridiculous isn’t it. I am absolutely fed up with the constant excuses for shoddy service due to CV19, it’s getting beyond a joke.
