Do you let your dc play in play parks, or do you think it’s too risky?

@Lolly34h

Ours are sadly still padlocked Sad so I avoid the parks as my little one who is 2 doesn't understand why they are all locked up. The gates and the swings are all padlocked so can't be used at all
Same here. We are in Yorkshire. There are rumours that we may be promoted to tier 3 this week 🤦‍♀️
ellenpartridge · 22/10/2020 17:05

Yes, not worried at all about playgrounds and don't think they should have never been closed. Risk there is tiny.

IncidentsandAccidents · 22/10/2020 17:06

Yes we do and I hope they are never closed again.

eurochick · 22/10/2020 17:07

I can't believe some parks are still padlocked. Poor kids.

We let our daughter go. We antibac hands afterwards but that's it.

TK1930 · 22/10/2020 17:11

@Fleura us too!
Definitely in the minority
A germ haven at the best of times!

cheeseychovolate · 22/10/2020 17:16

Yes if it's not busy. My husband is not keen on me taking them , but he's not the one trying to entertain them all day during half term and if my son doesn't go and run some energy off he's bouncing around the house all day. I don't do play centres at the minute.

PaperMonster · 22/10/2020 17:17

I let my nine year old play in them. I have no problems with that at all.

Hugosmugo · 22/10/2020 17:18

Yes, why not?
I thought it had been proven that parks are safe. I can't understand why people aren't using them tbh. No one i know is avoiding parks.

MiddleClassMother · 22/10/2020 17:21

Yes, just wash hands afterwards as normal. More risk of them falling off the swings.

Deelish75 · 22/10/2020 17:39

Yes I’m happy to let them play, we just wash our hands when we get home, but we’re still giving soft play a miss for now.

ChalkDinosaur · 22/10/2020 17:41

Yes I let her. We take hand gel and avoid the after school rush (DD is a toddler). It feels fine to me, but obviously you have to make your own risk assessment.

ILookAtTheFloor · 22/10/2020 17:41

100% I let them play. I've no issue with playgrounds at all. I thought closing them was absolute bull shit frankly-- and any councils that have them still closed are disgusting in my view!

PatchworkElmer · 22/10/2020 17:43

Yes, but we avoid at ‘peak’ times (after school), and leave if it gets busy.

cologne4711 · 22/10/2020 18:01

If the parks are outside the risk of transmission is minimal - both via fomites and close contact with other kids. As long as they don't spend 15 mins breathing into each others' faces I am sure they will be fine.

onedayinthefuture · 22/10/2020 18:01

@KenDoddsDad

I think there’s a greater risk of them falling off the play equipment and breaking a bone tbh.
Exactly this. I've seen a horrendous accident on a roundabout.
BeTheHokeyMan · 22/10/2020 18:04

My daughter plays in the playground every day it's beside the school so no avoiding it really ! Loads of kids playing there everyday great to see them getting fresh air while the weather is still reasonably good

PracticingPerson · 22/10/2020 18:14

I'm risk averse re. Covid but unless thepark was very busy I am fine with it. The risk of pincking up the virus on hands in a playground is, imo, low. But I do use sanitiser at regular intervals, distance as much as possible and wouldn't go if busy.

MrsJonesAndMe · 22/10/2020 21:47

Yes they are! I cried with relief when Boris said they were reopening.

twobrews · 22/10/2020 21:54

Yes, if it's packed then we avoid but that's what I'd usually do. I want a seat!

redonions · 22/10/2020 21:55

@ILookAtTheFloor

I agree. Other countries never shut their playgrounds at all, including Germany, which has much better infection rates than us, so I'm not convinced it was ever necessary.

I have no issues with taking DD to play parks, but then we're going to indoor attractions too. We've been going since they reopened. I made a list of all the nice playgrounds we passed when going on walks during lockdown so we could go back and play in a different one each day. There are still lots that we haven't visited yet!

Ouchy · 22/10/2020 21:59

Absolutely I let them!

Lolly34h · 24/10/2020 06:51

@LittleMissLockdown we live in the midlands just outside Birmingham

Somethingvague · 24/10/2020 06:58

Yes 100%. I feel more anxious about children growing up being taught to be scared of each other right now.

november90 · 24/10/2020 07:00

Yes I do. I can't not take him to the park... there's barely anything else for him to do and it's just gone on for too long! There's only so much pebble picking and walks I can do with a 3 year old 🤷🏼‍♀️

Jrobhatch29 · 24/10/2020 07:13

Yes we go to the park. I just gel their hands when we leave and wash hands once home. Love to see them playing
