If your DC have had COVID did they have a headache?

I'm worrying.

School called me said DS is complaining of a thumping headache. They gave him Calpol.

I'm going to check his temperature when the Calpol wears off (4 hours?).

If your DC had COVID did they have a headache?

Yes I'm a nervous person.

Yes.

Not my child but my colleague's child came home on Friday with a temperature. Saturday morning had quite a bad headache. Monday morning right as rain but by then they'd tested and he was positive.

Fingers crossed your DC will be fine.

MoirasRoses · 22/10/2020 13:47

A friend had terrible headaches but no fever or cough (lost taste & smell).. but it’s pretty common to get a headache with any virus. Particularly colds. My DD has cold no. 576 of Autumn & is laid on the sofa complaining of sore face. I imagine her sinuses are sore..

Try not to worry, could even be dehydration! Probs just needs a good sleep 😊

Isadora2007 · 22/10/2020 13:52

My dd(11) is prone to headaches. She gets migraines. She has had Covid with no headache. Only loss of smell.

Matilda1981 · 22/10/2020 14:07

I’ve been reliably informed by someone who works in a top hospital in London that one of the main symptoms of Covid in children is headaches!

somanysockssolittletime · 22/10/2020 14:12

Yeah I read that one of the main symptoms in children is headaches.

I'm a worrier in general.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes, and Isadora2007 I hope your DD gets her smell back soon and doesn't get any further symptoms.

I'm really hoping it's just dehydration or the late night he had last night. I'll take his temperature regularly tonight after the Calpol wears off.

I have a headache too but that's normal for me at this time of the month.

My 21 year old tested positive for COVID after headaches which continued. Severe and she took paracetamol and ibuprofen more or less back to back
Hope all ok
Relieve the pain as best you can

StealthPolarBear · 22/10/2020 14:16

The only child I'm aware of who I think had it (wasn't tested) had headache as main symptom

somanysockssolittletime · 22/10/2020 14:18

Thanks hunchicklove.

I hope your DD is OK now.

Yes, they both did and it's the only time either has ever articulated having a headache (5 and 7 yrs old).

Sorehandsandfeet · 22/10/2020 14:22

Yes, my son had a bad headache with Covid.

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 22/10/2020 14:54

Yes my son had a headache with Covid, so bad it made him vomit, 4 days after he became sick i had a headache and sore throat over two days, i have a suspicion i had Covid too.

ForeverRedSkinhead · 22/10/2020 15:01

I'll report back when my daughter's covid test results arrive op. I got her tested as she had a bad headache on Monday , and had developed a dry cough and felt light headed on Tuesday.

I hope your son feels better soon.

Rowgtfc72 · 22/10/2020 15:58

Dd had a headache for three days and general lethargy. Took to her bed for three days. And tested positive for covid.

somanysockssolittletime · 22/10/2020 16:59

Thank you all xx

I hope your DCs are all well now.

5 hours since the school gave him the calpol. Headache less he said, but he is tired and his eyes a little heavy.

Going to take his temperature now.

@ForeverRedSkinhead Yes, please let me know. Hope your DD feels better soon.

Hope he is ok. We had it (I think) pre testing in March and headache was the main symptom for mine (4 and 7). They would never normally mention a headache.

somanysockssolittletime · 22/10/2020 17:32

The thermometer showing wildly different temperatures. 36.2 one minute and 37.4 the next. I read the instructions I'm pretty sure I did it right.

ShowOfHands · 22/10/2020 17:32

Yes. It was the main symptom for DD for a little while. She's used to migraines and is stoic but she was crying with pain and it made her quite sick too. Couldn't keep anything down or bear the light or movement.

Straysocks · 22/10/2020 17:37

Yes. My two children and I still recovering, all of us had headaches. Youngest one recovered quickest and was least affected. I would get tested. I'm told teenagers presenting more frequently with stomach problems, that also true here.

Loftyloft · 22/10/2020 17:43

The Zoe tracker advised that headache and fatigue is the most common symptom in both children and adults. But - for everyone who tested due to a headache, only 1% actually had covid. So it is a main symptom of basically every virus. It depends on how many local cases or whether she’s been in contact with positive cases to how likely it is to be covid.

somanysockssolittletime · 22/10/2020 19:48

@ShowOfHands That's a shame for your DD, sounds really painful. Hope she's better now. I've never heard DS complain of a headache, or if I have it's been so rare I haven't noticed. Ex says he has noticed him having headaches though.

@Straysocks I hope you all recover fully soon. He's 11. He has been to the toilet twice tonight which is unusual for him but no diahorrea or pain he says. His sister who's 14 had a short lived headache today - she is prone to hormonal headaches - sometimes they both get nosebleeds on the same day when the atmosphere pressure changes, hopefully it's just that. I went on the gov website and filled out the answers and it said he isn't eligible for a test.

@Loftyloft That's slightly reassuring re the zoe app. We are in Glasgow, an area of high cases I think. DS doesn't have a phone, I have the app but his gran doesn't and he does go out and about with her on buses, to shops (both with mask) and music lesson (contact arrangement so lives with her and dad weekends). Me and ex WFH. I go nowhere indoors and he only goes to shops. DD only goes to school. They both wear masks in school all the time except lunch (have to in corridors anyway so I think why not all day).

Well, I understand your worry and it does sound like it could be numerous things. I really do hope that they both recover soon. FWIW, my youngest was tested as he has an underlying health problem and he had become unwell, not typical symptoms, after staying with his dad's who subsequently tested positive. His dad was tested because his GP insisted - not usual symptoms. I was tested when I started with severe leg pain the day after my son's positive result. I tested because I'm a carer for 3 people, at least one of whom it would undoubtedly kill. I was positive but no usual symptoms. My other child tested on basis he was unwell and everyone in household positive. If I had not known that I had Covid I would have continued to work and that would have been devastating. I've since spoken to our GP who said they would suspect Covid in a child with a headache and advise a test. Perhaps your GP would advise differently.

I have to say though as it is in our family too, keep an eye on the nighttime toilet going - with a headache I'd be wary of diabetes. Watch out for increased thirst and mood changes.

I'm going to back off now with all my doom! Hope everyone is better tomorrow.

Camomila · 23/10/2020 06:30

DS1 wasn't tested but had a headache when he was ill in March (I assume it was coronavirus as I had the shortness of breath as well as a temperature/cough).

Acerred · 23/10/2020 06:38

Yes, headache, stomach ache and no cough or sore throat.

ForeverRedSkinhead · 23/10/2020 15:24

@somanysockssolittletime my daughter's test came back negative.

Obviously we're glad that she doesn't have covid , but it confirms what pps have said about these symptoms possibly meaning many other illnesses.

Just in case anyone is interested , we ordered a postal test on Tuesday evening and got our results 3 days later.

somanysockssolittletime · 23/10/2020 16:27

@ForeverRedSkinhead thanks for coming back to update. I hope your DD feels better soon.
