These have been my symptoms for the last 2 days. Bit of stomach discomfort too. I’m at a loss whether or not to get a test. Anyone had similar or have any views. Feel rotten but don’t want to waste a test as not sure with lack of fever and cough whether it would be warranted

I would op.
I am currently having to self isolate for 14 days as I have had contact with a colleague who has tested positive.
My colleague had/has NONE of the classic Covid symptoms - no temperature, no cough, no loss of taste or smell.
The ONLY symptoms she has are that of a common cold - headache, stuffy and runny nose, a few sneezes and mild aches and pains.
The only reason she got a test was because her husband is a bit of a worrier, so she did it to reassure him.

yarncakes · 21/10/2020 21:07

Get tested as someone I work with has the same symptoms and has recently tested positive.

WeddingGrump · 21/10/2020 21:12

I would, I started with very similar symptons and only deveoped the coughing and temperature on day five. It was before tests were widely available so I don't know for sure it was COVID, but by day six I had the trio of 'classic' symptoms.

Grumpelstiltskin · 21/10/2020 21:28

Your symptoms are exactly what my friend has been experiencing and she's just tested positive. She is also snotty and has some muscular pain, so a real range of things going on.

Lemons1571 · 21/10/2020 21:37

I had this last week but didn’t get tested. Temp didn’t get above 37.5 and the proper bouts of coughing didn’t kick in til day 7 so to late for a test anyway. The headache was minging though, and was so so tired. Bit of chest discomfort around day 8 or so. Definitely not typical or threshold covid symptoms though.

Youngatheart00 · 21/10/2020 22:00

Thanks all, appreciate your thoughts and thank you for not shooting me down in flames. I’ve reported my symptoms online and it said to contact GP but not to test for covid?? All seems pretty confusing. Meanwhile all I want to do is sleep, and chest is sore, so will do that and see how I am in the morning. I am wfh anyway so won’t be in contact with anyone.

It is ridiculous. You need a test. I had those symptoms plus a sore thread and had it.

OneLastTimee · 22/10/2020 03:59

Yes I would say you need a test. I know 3 people tested positive without the typical symptoms

Monty27 · 22/10/2020 04:06

OP I managed to book a home test as there were no walk-in appointments nearby.
I have nausea, headaches and a disgusting taste in my mouth. Irregular bowel movements but not diahorrea.
Could be just the start. Who knows

miimblemomble · 22/10/2020 08:17

Yes you need to test, it at least to isolate. I had no fever or cough, still tested positive with your symptoms.

Cornettoninja · 22/10/2020 08:53

The UK’s testable symptoms are the three most common but they’re certainly not the only ones. Frustratingly covid can present in a variety of ways but feeling very ill would prompt me personally to test especially with chest symptoms as covid is very strongly linked with heart infections such as myocarditis/pericarditis which aren’t as scary as they sound but you should be alert to the symptoms in case it develops into something you need medical support with.

You’re not wasting a test if you feel ill, it’s wasting a test if you’re otherwise feeling completely normal and have absolutely no reason to think you have covid i.e recent contact with a verified case.

@youngatheart00 how did you get on?

I'm at bit unsure what to do myself.

I have had a slight headache for a day & also felt slightly nauseaous. Wasn't sick, still eating! As ever... 🐖
Zero covid symptoms according to the Gov. website, 111 online & the track & trace app. All say unlikely I have covid from the info I entered. So don't suggest a test or isolate.
No temperature etc.
I do have a bit of a cold but nothing excessive.
Have just eaten a Chinese takeaway... 🤷‍♀️ Feel much better than yesterday.

What would you do?

Whole situation is getting me really anxious. Any slight potential illness & its a 'is it covid panic'.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Youngatheart00 · 31/10/2020 10:32

I couldn’t get a test in local area and symptoms disappeared after a couple of days so I just stayed at home this week just in case (I am wfh anyway and DH did the food shop). Guess I won’t ever know if it was covid or not but I’m assuming no.

I think it’s a bit misleading about the high temp, cough etc and maybe they need to revise this because I can just imagine how many people have it but not going in to get it confirmed because it doesn’t “fit” in line with they call the main symptoms.

Last week I was coughing, and had a permanent headache. DS2 was a bit bunged up couldn’t taste, etc so decided to go for a test, the next day DS1 who wasn’t presenting anything other than needing to clear just throat every so often but not a cough, so he ordered a postal test after I told him what he had to do to take the test so he felt more comfortable doing it himself at home. I received my and my sons negative results within 48 hours so we put it down to a typical cold, and told ds2 school that he would return after the holiday.

3 days later my DS1 results came through as positive! He wasn’t showing any obvious symptoms and was really just done out of precaution because ds2 and I were presenting and was sure I had it.

Now we are all in isolation for the next 2 weeks and got the track and trace team on my case to stay home ( which I know to do anyway) but if my son paid attention to the “guidelines” he would not have bothered going for a test and unwittingly infected others, more so the staff at the new job he was supposed to be starting next week.

CH79 · 31/10/2020 12:08

@hoxtonbabe you had the coughing symptom I'm guessing to actually book the test?
I have a slight headache which has improved.
I've 2 kids under 7 so frankly they could have anything... You know what kids are like.
I've not developed any more symptoms & feel more or less fine today.
Flitting between thoughts of test just in case & no point as don't fit the criteria.
And again obviously don't want to put anyone at risk.
Going by the 'experts' I don't need one. 🤷‍♀️
It's all a bit rubbish isn't it.

CH79 · 31/10/2020 12:09

@youngatheart did the rest of your family isolate too or just yourself?

@karmanomore yeah I feel more or less fine today.
I'm not planning on going anywhere for a few days.
It's all made me quite anxious.
Like I say according to 'experts' I'm fine. Just not sure if u believe them after reading other peoples experiences!
