What are the key differences between Tier 2 and Tier 3?

I can see that there is a difference for pubs as they need to close if not serving meals but other than that (which is terrible for businesses obviously), how much worse is Tier 3?

In Tier 2 you can still meet family and friends outside of your household outdoors. In tier 3 you cannot meet anyone at all outside of your household, indoors or outdoors.

You can't meet up with people outside of your household or support bubble in most outdoor settings (like pub gardens).

No wedding receptions allowed.

Advised not to travel out of or into a tier 3 area except for work or education or caring.

No overnighting outside of your area so no going on holiday.

Tier 3 betting shops, pubs only serving drinks with meals. no mixing household whatsoever
Tier 2 pubs serving just drinks if you want it, rule of 6 outside
However I was in the pub this afternoon having lunch with DH and there were 3 separate groups. one table 2 men 2 women ( around 50 years old )
A table of 4 men all around mid 50's and another group of men, again mid 40' s .. I very much doubt each of those tables all live in the same household

You can still meet up with people outside of your household or support bubble in some circumstances:

www.gov.uk/guidance/local-covid-alert-level-very-high#meeting-with-family-and-friends

You may continue to see friends and family you do not live with (or have formed a support bubble with) in groups of 6 or less in certain outdoor public spaces, such as:

parks, beaches, countryside, forests
public gardens (whether or not you pay to enter them), allotments
outdoor sports courts and facilities, and playgrounds
When you do so, you must not meet in a group of more than 6. In England, this limit of 6 includes children of any age."

Tier 3 no gyms.

@PollyPelargonium52

Tier 3 no gyms.
Depends on area - still open in Lancashire
TableNiner · 20/10/2020 20:31

Yes I think you can still meet other people outside in Tier 3? Just not in private gardens.
Also I think gyms are ok. So

  • no weddings
  • no leaving the area
  • no pubs without meals.
