DS nearly 15 wont take it seriously. I STILL have to remind him to wash his hands!! Feel like it's closing in now and I'm worried as am overweight :(

Anyone else finding life hard in general? Feel like I'm limping along

DS just says "it's not as bad as people make out". I could just cry tbh

Yep my dd (secondary) is in her second lot of isolation 5 cases in her year group alone , my other dd (secondary) was in a class of 7 out of 32 , and my school has two bubbles off with two kids testing positive (primary)
Literally waiting for us to get it and other than work seeing no one Sad

Orangeblossom7777 · 20/10/2020 16:36

I think we need to learn to live with this risk now. It isn;t going away, it is endemic. The vaccine will only be for vulnerable groups- to start with anyway.

PracticingPerson · 20/10/2020 16:39

If it is endemic in the UK it is only because the government have let that happen Angry

frozendaisy · 20/10/2020 16:40

Perhaps half term gives everyone a bit of a breather.

Not with a 14 day incubation period it doesn’t.

The thing is, for most people, it isn't.

Most people are slightly unwell, feel a bit 'off' and wonder if they've got it or are totally unaware that they have it.

So why are people dying then?
PheasantPlucker1 · 20/10/2020 16:42

If he spends the day sat next to someone with covid, what good is washing his hands going to do anyway?

I have every sympathy. I work in a school and cleaning isnt happening at all and self isolating amongst staff isnt allowed, even though several staff have tested positive. Im leaving and crying every night.

Schools are not safe. If you insist he goes, you cant then complain.

Tfoot75 · 20/10/2020 16:43

I agree with your son, sorry. I'm assuming you aren't elderly if you have a teenage son. The fact that you are overweight really doesn't make you at risk to this, the greater likelihood is that you wouldn't notice you have it, or it will be no more serious than a cold. Your worry is out of proportion to the risk to yourself, plenty of data out there to equip yourself with.

FTMF30 · 20/10/2020 16:44

If you are that worried, the best thing you can do is working on improving your physical.

Mugofsteaminghottea · 20/10/2020 16:48

I have brought my bmi down from 39.5 to 35ish but I've still got a way to go! Know that's not his problem btw.

I insist he goes for his good. He's yr 10 and refused to do much school work in lockdown. Was a nightmare. School is definitely the right thing for him.

Thanks for replies. Just good to talk about it!

I'm also finding this a tough time OP. DH is a teacher at eldest DCs school, there are cases there. There are also cases at my youngest DCs school.

Like you I feel like we're just waiting to get the virus. Hopefully we'll get it mildly but with all the stories of long Covid, brain fog, and healthy people having complications, then of course there's a worry.

I'm also job hunting which is stressful.

FTMF30 · 20/10/2020 16:56

Good on re. the weight loss!

I think people are getting caught up in practising good hygiene because of covid, but people should practise good hygiene anyway!

Maybe change your messaging if he's not bought in.

starrynight19 · 20/10/2020 16:58

I don’t think your ds is unusual lots of teens are really struggling at the minute. It’s so hard when they are allowed to mingle all day to get them to understand how serious it is.
And well down on getting your bmi down.

GreyishDays · 20/10/2020 17:04

“Not with a 14 day incubation period it doesn’t.”

Incubation period for most people is around five days though.

Rainallnight · 20/10/2020 17:07

Wow, well done on getting your BMI down, OP. It’s really hard.

HipTightOnions · 20/10/2020 17:10

I agree with your son, sorry

If this is your view, please at least remind your children to keep well away from their teachers, some of whom are at much greater risk.

At least teenagers have the excuse of their genetically programmed spike in Dopamine levels reducing their ability to reason and assess risk to answer why so many are thick as mince.

What's your excuse?

He's correct.
Whatatoodoodle · 20/10/2020 19:24

When you say rife what do you mean?

NotAKaren · 20/10/2020 19:27

It would be upsetting know the size of school and numbers of cases to get an idea of what 'rife' is.

NotAKaren · 20/10/2020 19:28

*Useful not upsetting Hmm

Chailatteplease · 20/10/2020 19:55

@PheasantPlucker1 it isn’t as simple as that. For most parents, we spent 6 months juggling working from home with homeschooling. When they were allowed to go back, I kept mine off. They returned in September and have had another month off between them because of class bubbles closing. I am complaining. I’m entitled to. When some schools are doing online lessons with their teachers, so parents can get on with their own work, why aren’t they all doing it yet?

BlackeyedSusan · 20/10/2020 20:02
