Self Isolation

My DS (6) has had to self isolate from last Wednesday due to a positive case in his year group.

I’ve had to keep my three DDs at home too, all primary age as unable to leave DC to take them to school. It’s been authorised which is fine.

My issue is we were told when they got a positive test and were told to isolate for 14 days, but from what I know it’s 14 days from the last contact isn’t it? Which we haven’t been told. I’m trying to find out but not getting anywhere.

Can the school refuse to tell me the date of last contact? Do I just carry on with counting the 14 days from the positive test if so? I apologise for the daft questions, I have health anxiety and it’s through the roof currently.

Thank you

Our school gave us the date to isolate until. We are on the third isolation since September for my Yr9 ds2, and a load of kids were sent home from ds1 yr11 yesterday.

My daughter was off school on the Friday due to a cough (tested negative). On the following Tuesday her year bubble closed. Now, I was confused as to whether she had to isolate. They say you have to be in contact within 48 hours of onset of symptoms.
I emailed the school asking when the child was last in school and when they developed symptoms. The school came back to me, they didn't tell me the day of symptoms but they did say anybody who was in school on Thursday must isolate. Unless the child got tested and results on the same day (unlikely but possible) it should be the last day of contact is the start of isolation.

I would email school asking for details.

If it was me I'd do 14 days from the last day he was in school. Even if school do tell you when the child was last at school, it's only going to be a couple of days difference.

When is your half term?

Next Monday. I have quite bad anxiety also.

I’d like to be able to get the children out the house even just for a walk around the field nearby too as being cooped up with four small ones and attempting homeschooling as well is quite mentally draining.

My son has been in SI twice. It's 14 days from last contact. Both times we were given the 'release' date.

The template DfE letters should give this date. Schools should be giving this to parents so they can make informed decisions. The schools I work with have also given out dates, so it is not good enough.

I’ve now been told DS has to self isolate until Friday, whereas going by the letter I would have kept him inside for another 5 days.

It just means I can take them all out the house at the weekend for a little while. What a world we live in now.

I know that's still a while away, but least it's not that extra 5 days. Just goes to show you that clear communication is needed by parents.

I'm both sides, parents and school staff, so see both positions.
