Think I did my test wrong

Dh tested positive for COVID and dc and I have symptoms so booked us a test for today, but I don’t think I’ve done it right. Dc are 8 and 5 and were both really worried. 5 year old dd making huge fuss and crying. The man at the test centre said to just do the kids tonsils. So I did the 8 year old who was really brave about it, but I’m not entirely sure I got his tonsils (might just have been the dangly bit) and not sure I did it long enough. Tried to do 5 year old, but she was having none of it and was really crying by this point. So I did mine quickly, but I was so flustered I’ve realised I only did my throat not my nose too (I basically did the kids test). Then somehow managed to calm dd down and managed to do a quick throat swab, but again not sure if it was long enough or in the right place. Feel so bloody useless, but it was so stressful and I was all flustered. Anyone else messed up their COVID test? I really can’t face going though it all again.

I think most people worry they haven’t done it well enough but all you can do is wait and see what the results come back as, inconclusive is an option.

I’m surprised that they told you to do the kids throats we were told nose only for dd(4) and I’ve seen that a lot on here. Also, I hate to say it, but it doesn’t sound like you got the right bit of the throat, the tonsils are actually on the side not the dangly bits (they are level though).

Wait and see what the results say. You’re presumably isolating anyway so if they come back inconclusive order the home tests if you can, at least the environment is less stressful.

Hope they come back with a firm result for you quickly though. Flowers

You have done the test wrong so you have a higher chance of a false negative. I’d probably try again if I was you, maybe order postal tests so you can do it in a more relaxed environment. It’s really stressful trying to swab kids.

In the end though it doesn’t really make any difference as you still need to self isolate for 14 days even with a negative test because of your husband being positive so you could quite reasonably just decide you don’t care whether you or the kids actually have it since it makes no difference to how long you have to isolate for.

I hope you’re all feeling much better soon.
