If a school bubble closes due to a child in the year group testing positive can family members look after your child so you can still attend work?

Found this for you -www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/what-rules-your-child-sent-18911202

Answer is "No"

YellowishZebra · 17/10/2020 12:41

No, they shouldn't.
The child is isolating, they shouldn't leave the house and should have no visitors.

3littlewords · 17/10/2020 12:42

If its someone you are already in a support childcare bubble I would say so but think they'd have to come to your house to babysit as your child can't leave the house

HarryHHarry · 17/10/2020 12:45

Yes it would be my Mum who does my childcare & picks up from school couple of days a week. She could come sit at my house then?
It’s so confusing & rules are not clear

Simple answer is no. The child will need to self isolate for 14days. You can still do your normal routine but if they develop any symptoms then you and family need to self isolate/ get tested.

Also not sure where you are but in London households can't mix. So won't be impossible to get someone that was in your bubble.

dchange · 17/10/2020 12:48

Meant to say won't be possible 😊

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/10/2020 12:49

No. But to be honest I wouldn't judge anyone who did it though. If you need to work you need to work.

RedMarauder · 17/10/2020 12:53

OP if your mum is a single adult then she would form a bubble with your household so she could as she would then be part of your household.

If she lives with someone else then she couldn't. The problem is household mixing aid transmission.

tinseltitsandlittlegits · 17/10/2020 12:54

No because your child is now a risk of passing the virus on!
It's crap because we've already had a burst bubble and a child having to isolate and I know dam well the parents of a lot of her year bubble think covid is a joke and are just doing as they please so it's definitely going to burst again! ( they don't work so they don't have to worry about losing wages or childcare 🤬)

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 17/10/2020 13:03

The guidance isn't clear enough but I agree with PP, if she is a single person and is therefore part of your support bubble (and not mixing with any other households) it would be allowed. Childcare bubbles are allowed between two households as part of the tiered restrictions but I don't think they are applicable for isolation.

I had assumed (teacher) that I would have to take emergency unpaid dependants leave if my DC had to be home to isolate. There is no consideration from the government for working parents around this issue. I was reading about different government measures across Europe and it said that in France, parents are allowed to be furloughed to provide childcare for an isolating child.

HarryHHarry · 17/10/2020 13:09

She’s not in the same class as the child who tested positive so she’s not even a close contact. She does share a playground area but doesn’t play with the child but that must be the reason for her class isolating.

OP it is likely there is a positive test in her class but you haven't been informed. It makes no sense for her class to isolate if they have no contact with the other class.

MotherPiglet · 17/10/2020 13:37

Has she been told to isolate or just closed to bubble due to the numbers?

A school local to me have closed a (secondary school) year bubble due to a number of students and staff testing positive. The staff are the reason the bubbles been sent home because there now isnt enough staff to teach. Those who need to isolate have been told to, the others just have to not go to school.
