Anyone else getting this?

Can only imagine it’s alcohol gel related?

Every day I wake up with a new ‘blister’ you can see on my other fingers where the blister was.

Excuse wrinkly fingers, just out of the shower.

Bearing the disclaimer in mind, I would recommend trying to wash your hands where you can with a moisturising soap, rather than using alcohol gel and, if that isn't possible, trying different brands of gel (I realise this in itself might be challenging at the moment). It could be that you're simply drying out your skin or it could be a reaction to one of the ingredients (it could also be a lot of other things, please don't take this as medical advice).

I don't get blisters but, when I'm sanitising/washing my hands more often, the outer layer of skin does fall off in patches unless I'm really proactive with the moisturiser.

Thanks Gronky!

I do need to invest in a good hand moisturiser and try to remember to use this as much as possible.

I think you’re right. Think my fingers are just drying out completely. Only appears to be doing this on my left hand atm though. Wonder if it’s because as I’m using my right hand a lot more the gel doesn’t ‘sit’ there as long? Don’t know.

Curious if anyone is finding this happening though.

I struggle with this too. The problem with moisturiser is that it only works to prevent damage so, when you 'should' be using it, there isn't the constant reminder of damaged skin. I also dislike my hands feeling greasy.

Only one hand being affected is interesting, I cant' specifically remember if this happens to me.

Stop using alcohol gel until your hands heal.

And get some good thick hand moisturiser.

After every single time you wash your hands put a bit of hand moisturiser on your hands. (With trial and error you can work out the right amount to cover your hands but not leave it greasy.)

At night just before you go to sleep put on a decent amount of hand moisturiser. This last bit will help a lot.

If your hands don't show improvement in exactly a month you need to contact your GP.

Yes, I have started to get problems using the gel. I have stopped accepting it in shops, this is frowned upon but I’ve got split skin on my thumb and it is very painful.

Moondust001 · 17/10/2020 13:09

It's really common at the moment. Sanitisers or awful for your hands - limit their use to when required and there is no soap and water. But even soap and water can be very damaging. Overwashing your skin -especially hands which have rather thin skin in most places - actually dries them and removes naturally occurring essential bacteria which actually help protect you. Try to limit cleaning to when it is necessary, even these days. And find a hand moisturiser that contains a high level of urea - if your skin is drying out really badly then anything less won't make much difference. For really bad cases, take an intensive foot cream for chapped heels, rub it in to your hands once a week before bed and then wear cotton gloves overnight. It really will work!

Try Echohydra instead. It’s a foam, no alcohol. Takes longer to dry but doesn’t dry your hands out . It works on viruses, including noro. They tested it on the Covid virus too and it also worked with that but I’m not sure if they are allowed to advertise as such. Anyway it is much kinder to skin.

Thanks everyone, some really great advice Smile

@mrsknottschicken I’ll definitely be looking into buying Echohydra!

@Moondust001 & @RedMarauder thanks for the moisturising advice! Will be researching and stocking up.

Yes, that’s the one. They sell it on their own website too, at www.buyecohydra.com (sorry, on phone and not sure if link will work). Sometimes they have special offers.

Sorry, no that’s not the one! I didn’t look at the pic properly. I’ve not heard of that make, but if you want Ecohydra I’d suggest getting it from their website or from Boots, as you will know it’s genuine that way.

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 17/10/2020 15:41

@mrsknottschicken wonderful, thank you Smile The link works so I’m going to order and see how I get on!
