Tier 2, can we have visitors to the garden if the only access is through the house?

Or would going through the house be considered unlawful indoor mixing?

Thinking of Bonfire Night. Though it will probably be moot anyway because I expect my area will be bumped to T3 before then.

The .gov website doesn't cover this for this wave but previously visitors were allowed to walk through your home to the garden. I don't see any reason for it to have changed.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 16/10/2020 23:30

No. This very question was covered on the lunchtime news.

Ponoka7 · 16/10/2020 23:31

If they are going to be using the toilet, or touching anything, then no.

If you can socially distance in the garden then the rule, of six just to watch fireworks, isn't any different than meeting up in a park, I suppose.

But ideally we are supposed to be limiting social interactions.

Louisianna16 · 17/10/2020 08:17

If they wore a mask till they got to the garden +didn't hang about loitering inside too much of course you can!

(Unless you live in a huge stately home that takes ages to get through, or something Grin )

Grobagsforever · 17/10/2020 16:19

Well, think about it logically.

Are they going to lick anything in your house?

Are they sensible, sane humans who can be trusted to sanitise their hands before and after?

Will they wear a mask?

If No to the first and yes to the second two then crack on, Boris has no moral or intellectual authority to decide this one for you.

littlestpogo · 17/10/2020 17:35

This was answered on BBc yesterday and apparently the government spokesperson said the answer was no.
Which is a bit odd as presumably not that many people have front gardens/access to back not via the house?

jambeforecreamofcourse · 17/10/2020 18:35

As long as they don't touch anything as they're walking through then why wouldn't they? If the government is saying no, then they need to be clear about why.

StatisticalSense · 17/10/2020 18:54

@littlestpogo
Judging by the relatively small number of bins kept out of the front of people's houses I would expect that most of those with back gardens can access them without going through the house.

alexdgr8 · 17/10/2020 19:01

just don't do it.
it is this attitude, chipping away at the regulations that means the virus lingers around, and can spring out from who knows where, and bite. hard. and some fall. down. and stay down.
come on. leave off a bit of merry-making.
dont mingle. keep away from people.
if someone walked through your house smoking, would you notice. yes. of course. even if they went straight through.
well the virus particles are much smaller than the smoke. both excreted.
please people. the mayor of liverpool's brother has just died from it. i'm sure all that family were careful.
they'd already lost another brother to cancer five weeks ago.

MiniMaxi · 17/10/2020 19:05

I imagine the answer is officially no, but if people are walking straight through, wearing a mask, then I don’t see how it’s a problem from a transmission perspective.

littlestpogo · 17/10/2020 19:06

@StatisticalSense - I guess it depends on the area. Where I live almost no one can!

BogRollBOGOF · 17/10/2020 19:28

I doubt most MPs have this problem...

Meanwhile out in the real world, 45 seconds walking through a house does not a pandemic spread.

Some rules do not deserve to be upheld as they have no practical benefit and only cause harm *social isolation in this case).

Plus the virus has not suddenly mutated since May to become especially virilent in hallways or for 3 minutes use of a toilet.

Realitea · 17/10/2020 19:34

I thought tier 2 meant you can’t see other households at all. Even in gardens. I haven’t seen my son for three months because of this! Am I wrong?

GirlCrush · 17/10/2020 19:42

throw a sheet over them and they can run through.....surely!?

N0rthern · 17/10/2020 19:45

@Realitea tier 2 is no indoors mixing but gardens are ok, if you are one of the northern England areas previously in local restrictions (like me) you’ll notice this garden thing is actually an improvement to a week ago!

midnightstar66 · 17/10/2020 19:49

The tiers only started 5 days ago, so I'd say yes, you have been wrong!

Realitea · 17/10/2020 19:52

Oh dear I am out of touch haha

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 17/10/2020 19:55

From tier 2 regs on gov.uk site

"You may continue to see friends and family you do not live with (or have not formed a support bubble with) outside, including in a garden or other outdoor space. When you do so, you must not meet in a group of more than 6. This limit of 6 includes children of any age"

33goingon64 · 17/10/2020 20:13

StatisticalSense, you obviously don't live in a town or city centre! This came up a while ago - Tory cabinet ministers not able to understand why you'd have to go through a property to access the back garden...

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 17/10/2020 20:30

You mean they don't live in the posh terraces in central London, or covet No 10?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 17/10/2020 20:33

@statisticalsense

Sorry but that bin comment is ridiculous!

I can access my garden without going through the house and my bins are kept on the drive.

Although now you've got me questioning that decision 😂

Legoandloldolls · 17/10/2020 20:34

Well according to some, if you turn into a complete hermit then the virus will disappear. Luckily this will also filter out across the entire globe and without a vaccine or immunity it will just disappear.

So do the right thing, don a tinfoil hat and dont go to work, dont food, dont send your send your kids to school, and the words of Donald Trump, this will all go away.

Makes 100% scientific sence to me

QueenofmyPrinces · 17/10/2020 20:42

This is madness.

It wouldn’t even occur to me to not let someone walk through my house to get to my garden - it would take about 7 seconds.

What exactly do people think is going to happen in 7 seconds that makes it such a danger and a potential cause of spreading Covid?

anniegun · 17/10/2020 20:46

If the government spokesman was Boris Johnson he was probably wrong anyway . After his misleading info on children with separated parents its clear he doesn't understand the rules (or even reads them)
PetitFours · 17/10/2020 23:43

Would it be practical for them to climb a ladder, walk over your roof and then either climb down a ladder on the other side, or jump down onto 2-3 mattresses?
