Criteria for tiers

Does anyone know what the criteria for the tiers are? Is it the number out of 100,000?

Cases in my area are massively increasing - but we are still tier 1. I'm wondering at what stage we may change.

It appears to be done case by case, taking into account cases per 100K, rate of increase, hospital admissions and capacity, local factors etc. plus a huge amount of central v local government politics.

Here in Liverpool, they've gone by hospital capacity. We are at 80%. It's hardly surprising because we get Welsh patients sent to us. It was Welsh patients in our children's hospital Alderhey last time around. Alao we were due a new hospital but our powers that be allowed us to ne scammed. Our Royal hospital isn't fit for purpose.

They make it up as they go along and you are at the mercy of your county council. Another angry Essex resident in an area with 78/100 cases which has been similar for the last couple of weeks.

In Bournemouth area, the rate is 121/100,000 and growing but still Tier 1 so it does seem very strange.

In my tiny area of Northumberland we are at 437.1 per 100,000. We are tier 2. Northumberland is a huge area. I will never understand the logistics of lumping a massive area together. Altogether I think Northumberland is 167 per 100,000. The majority of Northumberland is rural and the vast majority of cases are in south east Northumberland within 20 miles of newcastle. I think it's when hospital are likely to get overwhelmed.

We are a 30 min bus ride from newcastle centre. A commuter town for newcastle and surrounding areas so yeah... going to be high rates here. Bot to mention a lot of caring and hospital staff.
