South East Results: Due now, induction booked for Sunday

DS came home from School on Wednesday with the start of a cold. He has asthma and every time he has a cold he gets a cough so it was no surprise he woke up on Thursday with a persistent cough. Usually I wouldn’t even worry

BUT...

I am due DC2 now and I have an induction booked for Sunday. I panicked because of my imminent trip to the hospital and I wouldn’t be able to lie if we got there and they asked if anyone in the household has a new persistent cough.

SO

I called 119 and got a text within the hour, drive to the test site and did the best I could to swab him (through lots of gagging) early yesterday morning. The test site was dead and we were in and out very quickly. (I should probably mention that I explained the predicament to the lady on 119 and when I asked about the time for results she said 48hours to 5 days and told me I should think about rearranging my “hospital appointment” which I pointed out is an induction and not really something I can just rearrange)

I haven’t had the results yet (I know it’s only been 30 hours but yesterday afternoon I lost some of my plug and more this morning so things could be on the move, if not it’s now only 40 hours until I have to go to hospital for my induction.

I stupidly assumed that the result would come quickly as the test site was so quiet.

Have you recently had a test in the South East? Particularly West Sussex? How long did your results take?

What do I do if I go into labour?! Or if the results aren’t here by Sunday?

I’m 100% sure it’s just a cold. I’m panicking because I believe that my DH won’t be allowed in with me if I either spontaneously go into labour or in for an induction before I get a negative result.

I could just cry about it all!

Also, if I have a test as soon as I arrive at the hospital, which I assume they have a quicker turn around for, and that’s negative then DH should be allowed to be with me by default

@seaduck I just found the latest stats on turnaround time. This is for the week 1-7th October:

In the most recent week, 67.9% of in-person tests results were received the next day after the test was taken. Turnaround times for satellite/home tests have become longer in the last week.

We’re obviously just a bit unlucky. 2/3 are getting results next day ☹️

@DobbieFreeElf it sucks, typical that we would be the unlucky ones. I keep googling and everyone else seems to get results in 48 hours ish. I'm not South East, I'm in Yorkshire so guessing our test labs will be busier than yours. I guess it's quite stressful for you with a hard deadline of your induction, I guess I can cling to the fact I can go really overdue yet and that could buy time.
Don't dare think about if it's positive or inconclusive. Hope you get a restful sleep and hope you get your text soon Flowers.

DobbieFreeElf · 16/10/2020 20:57

@seaduck thanks, you too 😊

Any success @DobbieFreeElf?
I got a negative result via email last night, so about 60 hours. I haven't had a text but make sure you check your emails too.

Keeping everything crossed for you Flowers

DobbieFreeElf · 17/10/2020 08:53

Ah, that’s great news! @seaduck

Nothing received yet, 47 hours since the test. I’ll keep refreshing my emails! I’ve got to call triage at 7.30 tomorrow morning, so still a little bit of time, but I would quite like to just relax today and not worry about it all day...

Oh I know, I hope they don't keep you waiting too long. You never know by the time they have you in, probably faffed around a lot, monitored you, you may have got another 12 hours (my previous experience of induction anyway Grin).

Fingers crossed for a text this morning for you Flowers

Still nothing Sad

Nooo, I've been thinking about you today, just came to see if you had any news. There's a whole night ahead yet, mine came at 10.45pm. Stay positive.

DobbieFreeElf · 17/10/2020 17:55

Thanks @seaduck, I was doing ok but just sat down on the sofa (after running round organising everything for DS, Dog and imminent arrival) and burst into tears. I just want to focus on tomorrow (which is stressful enough) without this hanging over me Sad
