If you live in a medium risk area, would you travel to London?

Just for a day out.

OP posts:
solidaritea · 16/10/2020 06:49

No. You'll inevitably spend some of the day indoors. While legal, this carries the same risk as meeting up with a group of londoners in a private home, which is something that is not allowed because of the danger it poses. So I wouldn't do it just now due to this risk

LaurieFairyCake · 16/10/2020 06:49

We're still medium risk until tonight in London Grin (and they're only doing it over the whole area as we're such a mobile population - where actually I live has 50 per 100,000)

I cannot stress how empty the centre is - how easy it is to go places and do things - 80% less footfall

I travelled at 9.15 am yesterday on the tube - there was no one in my carriage

JacobReesMogadishu · 16/10/2020 06:51

Nope. More due to the train journey to get there.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/10/2020 06:52

If you're at all worried go to big, ventilated places - Tate Modern/V and A/British Museum/Harrods and Fortnums and Selfridges/St Paul's/Westminster Abbey

It's so quiet

PracticingPerson · 16/10/2020 06:52

No, because now is the time for people to rein it in a bit.

mashpot · 16/10/2020 06:52

I would, but I do live in London

sashagabadon · 16/10/2020 06:54

Yes you should. You’ll have a lovely time

moomoogalicious · 16/10/2020 06:55

Yes. I went last week. The trains are empty and the city centre is quieter than my local town centre

lughnasadh · 16/10/2020 06:55

Yes.

NHM is open, so is Kew.

The parks, Hamleys, churches, loads of places are open.

I go in to London least once a week.

Fressia123 · 16/10/2020 06:58

If we hadn't to self isolate thanks to a case at school we'd be going for half term.

Bookaholic73 · 16/10/2020 07:02

Not a chance.

Boredsilly · 16/10/2020 07:03

I'm going today from a tier 1 area to visit my sister before the restrictions kick in tomorrow,
she lives on a quiet residential street so won't see anyone just get out the car and go into her house

moomoogalicious · 16/10/2020 07:04

Oh just read london is going into tier 2, so i probably wouldn't

Frazzled13 · 16/10/2020 07:09

Yep. In fact I’m planning to next weekend.

Debating this at the moment and had planned to go next week. We’re in a medium risk area with a much higher number of cases than London. It’s the public transport that worries me.

Othering · 16/10/2020 07:35

Yes. I did last week and I will next week.

IrishMamaMia · 16/10/2020 07:39

I travel in daily for work. I'm planning a few trips in over the holidays and am looking forward to them. From what I read about covid, a good way to avoid infection is avoiding pro-longed contact indoors with others so take this into account and your risks would be the same as elsewhere.

Jocasta2018 · 16/10/2020 07:52

For medical issues I continued to travel into London during lockdown. There were plenty of empty carriages on usually busy commuter trains going into Waterloo. I walked everywhere - have started getting buses & the top deck is pretty much empty. The number of people around is massively reduced even now lockdown is over.
I was planning on booking some museum visits around appointments but not so sure now - more due to last minute cancellations than actually visiting places!

BunsyGirl · 16/10/2020 07:52

Yes, absolutely. I am in a tier 2 which should be a tier 1 (Essex). There are now places with high rates of infection that are in lower tiers. It’s ridiculous and makes a mockery of the whole tier system. So I will be ignoring the tiers from now on and making my own decisions.

DerbyshireMama · 16/10/2020 07:54

No. But not because.of "the risk", I wouldn't go there anyway.

BunsyGirl · 16/10/2020 07:55

@moomoogalicious Indeed it is, but have you compared the rate of infections to the area you live in. It’s not so quite “black and white” as you think. I am in Essex on tier 2 but I have family in two different parts of the country who are in tier 1 despite having higher rates of infection. You need to do your own risk assessment rather than relying on the Governments tier system which is a joke.

moomoogalicious · 16/10/2020 07:57

@BunsyGirl I had planned to go in over half term with my youngest, so I guess you're right. When I went last week it was empty so 'safer' than my own area in regard to social distancing!

nancypineapple · 16/10/2020 08:00

I think half term week here in London will be busy in town especially the museums and Hamleys, Covent Garden areas. My son said Covent Garden and Soho were v busy last weekend-busier than all the media scenes of Liverpool partying. I think we will go into town for a couple of days but maybe avoid the South Bank and bigger museums.
