At home test for a child: TransUnion credit check to confirm identity?!

My 8-year-old has a high temperature so we thought we should look into getting her a test. Our nearest test centre is too far away (bizarrely not in Edinburgh where we live, what?!) so we started the process for an at-home test, but it's saying that they need to send my child's details to TransUnion.

I'm really not happy about this. Anyone know what the purpose is when it's for a child who obviously will have no credit history so there's no bloody reason for a credit company to check.

Should clarify: the NHS information says you should test a child who shows any of the three symptoms.

Have you hit a dodgy link? I ordered a home test quite easily. It didn’t arrive but easy enough to order, no check required.

No, from the .gov.uk website, and the info there mentions TransUnion but gives no justification for sending a child's data.

I checked my credit report the other day. It seems NHS did a soft search to check my identity when I ordered a home test for myself. I had no idea that they perform identity checks for home tests and nowhere did I see that this would be the case.

I did hear about this...google it?

Have googled. It's what they're doing. I just don't feel comfortable about it.

Had no idea this was the case. I guess if they’d asked when I did it, I needed the test so would have given it as I was desperate to get ds tested and dh was away. I wouldn’t have been happy though but my need would have outweighed my discomfort.

Yeah, it's annoying.

We've gone through the form again and could now get a test in Edinburgh without needing her data checked so that's all sorted.
