Half term holiday with grandparents?

So my two kids were supposed to be going to Legoland with my parents this half term. We’ve just gone into Tier 2 so no indoor household mixing. My opinion is that the holiday is therefore cancelled/postponed til next year, but friends disagree and say that my parents are a childcare ‘bubble’ so the holiday is ok. What do you think? We don’t need the childcare as I work from home and my husband is at home too.

Dominic Cummings would send them wouldn't he? He'd call it essential childcare.

SqidgeBum · 15/10/2020 13:33

If you want to stick to the rules, I would say the holiday is cancelled, as the grandparents clearly arent childcare that is needed. Its just a nice thing to take the grandkids away on a holiday.

If you are not fussed on sticking to the rules, then you can frame it whatever way you want and the kids can go away wo Legoland. Nobody is going to come bashing your door down and fining you.

It has to be cancelled. Your friends are stupid!

Youandmeareluckytobeus · 15/10/2020 13:36

It isn't childcare. It is an holiday and, as no indoor mixing of households is allowed in tier 2, they shouldn't go.
The grandparents could take them to Legoland for the day but return the children to you on the evening so they don't mix households.

pontypridd · 15/10/2020 13:43

Surely Legoland is fine as it's outdoors?

atotalshambles · 15/10/2020 13:45

oudoors - rule of 6 so as long as they don't go indoors - all ok! (I think)

SqidgeBum · 15/10/2020 13:48

Oh I got the impression since you said 'holiday' that they had to go away and stay somewhere to go to Legoland. If its just a day trip outside it should be ok rules wise coming from a tier 2 .... I think.

MrsWombat · 15/10/2020 13:50

It's informal childcare plus it's outdoors. Dominic says yes.

For me, the rules are the rules. Luckily Grandparents seem to be in agreement- it’s not childcare that is needed, therefore it can’t happen.

No, it was going to be a 3 day trip, resort hotels and everything (I only got camping holidays as a kid! Haha) It’s too far away for just a day trip. X
