Tutor?? Tier 2 restrictions...

My DS has been getting extra maths help from a tutor who comes to our house.

Is this 'education' so therefore exempted?

Is it work which can't be done elsewhere (DS can't do zoom stuff) so therefore exempted?
Or does this have to stop??

And what about the NOT officially registered after-school carer who comes to our house to look after the children twice a week - is that ok or does the fact that she isn't 'registered' mean it's not allowed??!

I think the childcare is ok, because they are not registered and considered a childcare bubble.
I know some tutors are visiting homes, but they shouldn't be. It's not a place of work where systems have been put in place, and can be done from the tutors home online.
My dh teaches music, hasn't visited a home since march, the insurance doesn't cover it for a start.

I am tutor, and when schools went back, my students came back. they come to my house.

I know of plenty who are. It is no different to a friend coming round for a coffee.

The only problem I have is that once all my family is home, the collecting parent can mean we go over 6, so I encourage them to ring and let me send kid out of the door. Fortunately my ds is often not there. I spray the table/chair /doorhandle between students and my kids (teens) are not allowed to walk through where I teach.

But we are not yet on tier 2.
I agree that teaching a certain age and certain children can not be done online. It is a bit of a myth that everything can be taught online.

Honestly? I don't know and I'm praying we stay at tier 1.

Sorry, realise that was spectacularly unhelpful

Ha! Indeed, was all fine under Tier 1.

I can't see how it's ok under Tier 2 although as you say, it's not a thing that can be done remotely so it's in person or not at all...

Tutor seems fine to me. Legislation is here

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/1104/schedule/1/made

This provides an exception to the tier two rules that two people cannot gather in doors if it is “for the purposes of work”. My tutor only comes to the house because I pay him to teach my son so that is “for the purposes of work” as far as I can see and exempt. The work from home if you can is guidance not law so this would seem to be the relative legislation and allows in person tutoring (and cleaning and trades people) legal.
