Hairdressers and physios under tier 2

I can't find any specific guidance on this, but if you can't mix inside a pub, presumably things like haircuts and physio appointments are also out, due to being 'indoor mixing of households'? Has anyone else already managed to decipher this?

I've been searching online and failing...

Oh I'm not sure, I went to a physio appt this morning (tier 2) and we wore masks and completed appt as normal! I thought it wasn't mixing it was business

stillfeelingmad · 15/10/2020 12:56

I mean if I went to the pub or restaurant that are still open k would be 'mixing' with the waiter technically...

I think closure of hairdressers etc only kicks in when an area moves into tier 3 and then only if the council decides they should close.

Youandmeareluckytobeus · 15/10/2020 13:00

Under tier 2 they can remain open and we know that because they are currently open and, in the recent announcement, they were not told to close.

There is nothing to decipher. The Govt just announced any changes to the current restrictions and regulations and these didn't change.

Autumngoldleaf · 15/10/2020 13:01

hairdressers were treated separately to beauty business .

Excited101 · 15/10/2020 13:02

It’s not socialising though, it’s more of an economic situation

Thiscantreallybehappening · 15/10/2020 13:03

tier 2

"Businesses and venues can continue to operate, in a covid-secure manner, other than those that remain closed in law"

The only difference between tier 1 and 2 is that there is no household mixing in any indoor setting. You can still meet up to 6 people in an outdoor setting. Other than that, as far as I can see, there is no change.

SmallestInTheClass · 15/10/2020 13:05

The rules are about socialising, visiting a physio or hairdresser isn't socialising. Directly from the guidance: businesses and venues can continue to operate, in a COVID-secure manner, other than those that remain closed in law

rainkeepsfallingdown · 15/10/2020 13:07

So if after we move to Tier 2, I have personal care appointments, which involve close contact, but which are in COVID-secure environments, even if I have to travel for them, I should probably be OK...?

Thanks for the sanity check, everyone. I'm really cautious about not breaking the rules, but equally, I don't really know what the rules are...

Hi OP

Yes, that's right. The restriction is no "social" household mixing in any setting. So hairdressers, beauticians, physios are still allowed to operate in a covid-secure environment.

Redcrayons · 15/10/2020 13:12

Im in tier 3 and hairdressers are still open.

I have seen a couple of sports physio posting on FB to say they are still doing appointments.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 15/10/2020 13:13

If your area moves into tier 3 that might change. By what I understand tier 3 is closure of pubs, restaurants etc and then local councils have to make decisions on closures of other businesses. They might or might not decide on hairdressers etc at that point.

I know what you mean, it is difficult trying to keep up with all the changes.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 15/10/2020 13:14

@Redcrayons

That is good to know. Have they closed gyms in your area?

Redcrayons · 15/10/2020 15:13

Yes gyms are closed.

10storeylovesong · 15/10/2020 15:57

Also tier 3. Gyms are closed but hairdressers open. I emailed my MP about gyms and got a response that basically said local authorities had had no choice im gyms closing. He said he'd been inundated about the same thing.
