My hubby picked up little one at 5:45pm. No mention of Covid case. At 6:30pm I receive email from school saying the nursery is closed from tomorrow. In the letter it states my child has come in close contact with someone that's confirmed Covid 19. She now has to sell isolate for 10 days. If she has no symptoms then she can return after 14days.

Totally understand why they did not mention at pick up as would have been chaos.

Need to figure out work. Wonder if nursery will refund for days closed. Also have a 5 yr old going to school. And looks like we are heading towards a 2 weeks circuit break. Interesting times.

Annual leave doesn’t stretch far with a two week isolation - people will have ran out by the time we get to November.

This is going to be a problem for some people. Especially if it does the rounds in your child's school and they are home a couple of times.

My son (14) is on his second 14 day self isolation period this term. In both cases we only found out the evening before.

That's not unusual, schools contacting parents of an evening. There are multiple cases at his secondary and his brother's. Obviously, they do not need childcare, but if we did then I understand your concerns with nursery. I don't know what I would have done in your position when mine were at nursery. It is not a school or nursery's fault, sadly, when they find out there is a case.

I work with one school who found out in the morning and had to contact parents before 9am. Another contacted parents at 9.30pm.
Sometimes schools cannot get an answer from the DfE helpline or they get conflicting advice if they speak to different advisors.

Good luck as this sounds very stressful.

@ZaphodBeeblerox

Sorry for the chaos. Our entire household (DH, toddler DD and I) have covid. We tested DH first so she was anyway off school. But we got her privately tested on Friday, and emailed the school the positive result on Saturday. They don’t check their emails until 9 am on Monday, so all the kids in her class came in, and then parents got a call at 10.30 to come pick them up. Quite frustrating when they knew there was a potential exposure. I understand schools are dealing with all new territory. And I imagine this scenario will be repeated in the winter if and when others catch it. Just strange times we live in.
That is frustrating. One of our primaries found out about a case last Saturday and I worked all weekend with the head - parents were contacted on the Sunday morning.
