Does the tourist industry actually want visitors right now?

I can't decide what to do about our half term holiday next week. It's not banned, it's fairly low key. But we are planning to visit a tourist attraction and eat out a couple of times. We had planned to stay with family but are now having 2 nights in a hotel.

If you work in a tourist attraction like a museum or a theme park do you still want visitors? Or if you work in a hotel? I can't shake this feeling that people might not want us and we are putting them at risk by travelling.

We're sensible, we live a low risk life at home, but the people working in these places don't know that. And no matter how sensible you are you just have to be unlucky once to catch and spread.

To be honest we get more annoyed with people who can't cope with roads that frequently veer into single vehicle width. If you want rural Wales to welcome you with open arms learn how to cope with reversing and passing places Grin

We've just cancelled a series of smaller hotels and sc accommodation for half term. We can't go as I've just tested positive and dh's SI won't finish in time for the start of the break at the very least.

The people we spoke to when calling understood but appeared to be saddened by the loss of business - all booked on refundable basis so they won't receive any money from us. We hope to redo the holiday next year and will try to use the same accommodation if we can.

None seemed relieved we weren't going.

Please please please come on holiday.

We are in a very low area of infection in the south west, and whilst I would be rather nervous about thousands coming from tier three areas, we are staring into a horrific winter of very little business. One last little boost over half term will help everyone in the town I live in.

Just wear your mask, keep your distance and don’t be an idiot PLEASE!

I think mark drakeford is playing up to the nationalists. The legislation will be unenforceable. The problem is wales were late in adopting masks there are plenty of people not social distancing in supermarkets the spread is rife since schools reopened. It's not visitors - we are doing a great job of spreading the virus all by ourselves. I think mark drakeford is playing politics with this and has been all the way through the pandemic.

Well I would not get too excited about Wales a big announcement coming 28 day circuit breaker lockdown no hospitality allowed, just shops, just like March.

Love Bournemouth, Starcat. And Poole ❤️

Thanks @LostInWales. I can reverse quite happily so that's a plus point and very happy to spend money!

Aloneagain I don't know where you get your information from but Mark Drakeford has played the science very well throughout the pandemic. I know people who work for him and since the start he has (unlike our dear prime minister) poured over all the scientific documents and listened to scientific advisors. I have absolutely no idea how deciding to not allow people from the highest risk areas come into our super low virus level areas with poor access to healthcare could be seen as pandering to nationalists. We don't let the people in high virus level areas of Wales to travel about either. He's more pandering to the Torygraph reading English retirees of Tenby who are also scared and about as far from nationalists as you'll find.

The buggers also retire in N Wales along the coast, plays havoc with our local needs, they do not need schools, playgrounds, swimming pools, so resent our need for them.

Lostinwales info from lived experience. Mark Drakeford file under clueless along with Boris Johnson. Problem with welsh labour is they are never going to voted out which makes them arrogant and unwilling to listen to a spectrum of opinion. Always coming at every issue from a pov of we must not do anything England does. So tedious. Just a game to keep votes from PC. Not acting in best interests of country but then who is these days?
