So I'm not well. Feel sick, diarrhea, headache, soooooo tired. Also a bit of a cold. No temp, cough or loss of smell. I work with vulnerable kids so I won't be in tomorrow anyway but a colleague suggested a test even though no top 3 symptoms? I'm thinking no need. Waiting on my manager to respond. Advice?

I had one day where I had a bit of diahorrea, rushed to the loo twice in, say, a 12 hour period. I felt odd and very tired BUT a few days before I'd had a sedative in hospital, and then I was up till around 3am for a couple of nights due to insomnia, and various very stressful things at home AND I have sleep apnea. So I still feel tired. How on earth can I decide if I need a test?

Oh and to top it all off I've had a flu jab today. Really do I have any way of picking out any symptoms, do I have any apart from being tired - is that significant under the circumstances?

You dont have any of the symptoms the govt require testing for (regardless what Zoe app says)

Regarding diarrhoea you should not go back to work til 48 hours after the last episode so if thats tomorrow lunch time, you could not go back til Sunday lunch time ( if you work weekends)

If you can get a test, I would. You work with vulnerable kids. Good luck OP.

Its funny how people here criticise the government at every step over their handling of the pandemic but as soon as anyone mentions symptoms that may well be to do with covid people say 'oh no its not one of the top three'. If you feel ill, take a test! Rule it out, carry on.

Streamingbannersofdawn · 15/10/2020 18:18

I expect this is why its so damn hard to get a test when you do need one!

The Zoe research app will send you for a test. Enter those symptoms and the next day you'll get invited to do so. This means you can access testing without having to lie.

Using the nhs normal route then you are not eligible to test.

I currently have COVID after a routine hospital swab picked it up yesterday. My symptoms at the time were for chest tightness, sky high blood pressure, fast heart rate - at that time I had no cough ( that started today) At no point have I lost sense of smell/taste (as yet anyway) or had a high temperature. All the medical staff at the walk in centre, my GPs, A and E and then the ward doctors dismissed COVID. I was only swabbed as it's routine for an admissions ward. A and e didn't swab.

My symptoms make sense for COVID now but they did not suspect it at all. I was being investigated for a blood clot of my lungs and they were focusing in stabilising my blood pressure. My bloods and my chest x rays have all come back normal, despite the chest tightness my SATs were normal. I was in the safe zone at a and e and in an open ward during my hospital stay.

The only other symptoms I can think back on with hindsight are:

  • chest felt heavyish from mid last week, gradually more noticeable from Thursday onwards. The week before I'd had a bit of a cold and croaky voice. Over the weekend I had some weird leg pains. All could be dismissed as a normal light cold - I work in a school so this is normal, especially as I've been out of school since March before.

As said earlier my cough only started last night. The hospital now think I have had it for over a week, based on my chest tightness stuff.

Hamstersarse - to be fair I knew I was feeling ill, I just didn't know it was COVID. I was feeling bad enough for the walk in centre to call a cat 2 ambulance to a and e, and for my gp the next day to have me admitted into hospital.

I don't have COVID bad, so far anyway and hoping after a week of it - despite only knowing a day - I'm at the peak. However, it's certainly not just a light cold right now. My chest and breathing is not pleasant at all. I've had pneumonia and whilst the cough isn't as bad as that the breathlessness and chest tightness is certainly similar.
