Babysitter and mask wearing

Would you require your babysitter/nanny to wear a mask? My DC is eight so would be happy watching telly with the babysitter for a couple of hours while she is still wearing a mask.

I don't think I'd invite a university student into my home at the moment if I didn't need to. The mask is the least of your worries if she's carrying it as she'll be touching surfaces, using your toilet and even tucking your child into bed? Personally I'd just not go on the night out. It's disappointing but hardly a big deal.

Thank you for collective wisdom everyone! Probably no to babysitter then

Will you be wearing a mask to your dinner party?

I presume you'll be socialising with people out with your immediate family that may or may not have been on public transport etc and therefor running the risk of becoming infected and bringing it home to your child anyway

Cheetosforbreakfast · 13/10/2020 01:24

Absolutely not. I dint expect anyone to wear a mask in my hime.

ParrotheadRedux · 13/10/2020 01:30

You’re the one going to the dinner party....?

That's what I thought.

I didn't know we were supposed to be going to dinner parties at the moment. You are surely just as much at risk as the babysitter.

Allyfromtheblock · 13/10/2020 06:15

In Tier 1 zone you can as long as there are up to six people in the group. It is a small dinner event.

Just because you are allowed to do something doesn't make it low risk. The babysitter may have been socialising as are you, and presumably your child has been in school.

If you insist on a mask for the babysitter then you should really ask your child to wear one as well in all fairness.

You are allowed to as long as you follow social distancing of 2m or 1m + mask or other mitigation. Can you do that at your dinner party? Can the baby sitter? If no then no it’s not allowed.
SleepingStandingUp · 13/10/2020 09:11

Op is she homeschooled? If not, I think you're being ott tbh.

HoneyBee03 · 13/10/2020 09:23

If you're happy to go to a dinner party without wearing a mask, surely you're happy to have a babysitter in your house without a mask?

Sparkle733 · 13/10/2020 09:34

I'd probably cancel going out and stay at home with my child.
Not worth the risk.

Northernsoullover · 13/10/2020 09:53

Just because you can mix doesn't mean you should. Do people really think that mixing as a 6 is risk free?

Jrobhatch29 · 13/10/2020 10:00

Hilarious. You're off to sit round a table having a meal with others, presumably not wearing a mask. But you want the babysitter you've asked to come into your home so you can do this to wear one. I know what I would say if I was the babysitter....
