Cancelling UK holiday

I'm in Birmingham and would like to cancel my holiday via hoseasons for October half term week and when I phoned earlier today I was told I cannot do that as it has to be within 21 days of departure. Do you think it would be possible with the news announced today with advice being to only travel where necessary?

I don't think so.

Wasn't it only tier 3 that was asked not to travel? I only saw this:

Medium:
Follow the rule of six if meeting indoors or outdoors.
Pubs and restaurants to shut at 10pm.

High:
No household mixing indoors
Rule of six will apply outdoors

Very High:
No household mixing indoors or outdoors
Pubs and bars not serving meals will be closed
Guidance against travelling in and out of the area

On the basis of this, I'm still having my mum to stay this weekend and we will still go and visit my grandparents (2 hour drive) as part of her trip. I don't really know how sensible it is to be honest but they are mid 90s and my mum hasn't seen them since Christmas due to living 350 miles apart (they aren't her parents, they're my paternal grandparents). In the back of my mind I'm aware that there is a high risk of this being the last opportunity to see them if things are worse by Christmas so we're going to take it.

To be honest I didn't see all of the news conference but I did see breaking news for our area to say only essential travel but there seems to be some backtracking. Just confused with what to do. I'd love to go but with everything going on I'm a bit nervous and unsure.

I think you can only cancel if the advice is not to travel or if that holiday is in a top tier location. I’m booked with hoseasons too for the same week, I have paid in full so I will be going unless they call me to say they have cancelled. I don’t see any reason for not going, the destination is not in the top tier and I live in the SW which is still in the first tier.

Op, this is the gov.uk guidance for Tier 2, which I am assuming you in.

you can continue to travel to venues or amenities that are open, for work or to access education, but should look to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible

There is nothing to say don’t travel outside area, or on holiday, as there is for T3.

We also in T2, have a cottage booked in SW in November, still going unless guidance changes significantly, although we can cancel up to 48hrs before.

Thank you Sophiesdog

Even in Tier 3, is travelling outside the area "advised against" or illegal?

Juanmorebeer · 12/10/2020 21:07

Currently advised against, not illegal

Cloudburstagain · 12/10/2020 21:12

Wales is different though if in Wales.

PumpkinPie2016 · 12/10/2020 22:01

I am in a tier 2 area and will be going away as planned in 2 weeks time.

Tier 2 areas can travel. Tier 3 is advised against and people shouldn't go to stay in a tier 3 area.

Unfortunately, I think holiday places will only offer refunds/alternatives if you are not allowed to go i.e. you are in a tier 3 area.
