What do you think? Help clarifying new tier 2 rules.

So my local MP has put a post up this afternoon announcing my area is in tier 2 lockdown.

One section of the rules isn't very clear imo and I'm wondering what other people think.

So he states in one section: .

You CAN'T mix households indoors.

But households CAN mix outdoors.

Then:

You can leave to go to other areas so long as you continue to follow their local restrictions.

But then says:

You can't go to another area to mix households.

So I'm assuming they mean you can't travel to another area to mix INDOORS if that's allowed in the area you travel to but that you can still meet outdoors?

My dad lives in the next county and is not included in the new restrictions, I've been meeting him work walks with the dog. So can I travel to meet him outdoors or can I not?!

If you can meet outdoors in your area and you can meet outdoors in his area, you can travel to meet outdoors in either area.

MereDintofPandiculation · 12/10/2020 18:26

I would presume it means that you can't meet another household indoors whether it's in your area or in a tier 1 area that you meet.

But you can go to another tier 2 area or a tier 1 area and meet outdoors (as long as there's fewer than 6 of you in total).

And if you go to a tier 3 area you have to obey the tier 3 rules.

The tier 2 guidance includes not travelling more than necessary. No advice yet on what is necessary. Medical appointment, buying food, going to work I presume is necessary. What about doing voluntary work? Walking the dog with your father? Who knows?

It's like a bloody Monty Python sketch now.

Sophiesdog2020 · 12/10/2020 18:32

Clear as mud isn’t it 😂😂

We are hoping to go to my PIL to see them outside for MIL 80th (weather permitting).

We are going into a Tier 2 area (Unrestricted up to now) but as far as I am aware we can still travel and see them outdoors (they wouldn’t want us in the house).

Whether we could go out for a meal with them if weather is bad is unclear, as that would be illegal in our area but not theirs?

fallfallfall · 12/10/2020 18:35

sorry shopping comes to mind not visiting anyone indoors. probably not helpful.

GrumpySausage · 12/10/2020 18:41

It's the support bubbkes/childcare bubbles that are confusing for me. They were allowed in the other areas in local lockdown (now tier 2)but there's no mention of them now.

I'm hoping it'll be clarified later by Boris. Probably not...

My MPs update just said you can travel to other areas so long as you follow their restrictions.

It also said travel is allowed for work, education and... Holidays!

So I'd hope if a holiday is deemed as a necessity then travelling 10 minutes away to walk my dog would be okay 😂 but who knows anymore.

Yes, yes it is

I'm thinking Blackadder rather than Monty Python. I'm convinced Baldric has been involved in this Hmm

No I think if you can't do it in your area, you can't travel and do it elsewhere even if it's allowed where you are going.

As I understand it, if you travel to another area, you need to follow the rules of whichever tier that area is on.

Making out that you have to follow your area tier, regardless of where you are is false, however I can see why people seem to be trying to mislead in this way, as otherwise say, you wanted to meet family for a meal, but your area was tier 2, the area 20 mins away is tier 3, travelling to tier 3 would be easy. If it was made out that the tier 2 rules would apply wherever you travel, then this stops people travelling to avoid rules. In theory.

It would be impossible to police if the tier restrictions from where you live, applied wherever you currently are. Would cause mass confusion and, how on earth would it work really?!

NRatched · 12/10/2020 19:32

Holidays being classed min with essential ravel is just an odd decision. Have been thinking that ever since I read our 'local lockdown rules' which were harsh enough to say absolutely 0 mixing of households at all, yet had a part where it was stated holidays were fine (IF YOU HOLIDAY WITH YOUR OWN HOUSHOLD ONLY!) which seemed..a bit weird.,

Very unfair to Baldrick, at least he had a (cunning) plan!
CrappleUmble · 12/10/2020 19:48

See if Adam Wagner covers it in any of his explanatory tweets. Can't see it now but maybe he will do.

I see the legislation includes a helpful legal definition of a table, which is the content we all desperately need in 2020.

Frazzled2207 · 12/10/2020 19:53

@PotLot
Yes I would interpret that as you can meet your dad to walk your dog. But if he is in say tier one and you in tier 2, you can't go to his house for a cup of tea.

See I really thought this was the case, and was from what I could make out of his post.

That you can't travel to another tier to benefit from their lesser restrictions.

So technically if that wasn't true, my dad couldn't come to me for a brew but I could go to him?

You're right though, it's a nightmare to police so I imagine it won't be.
