If the symptoms go away

DS (2) is prone to coughs, and has developed a new one yesterday. Coughed quite a lot since then. Also has a runny nose but no fever. If relevant, he had the flu vaccine on Saturday.

I don't think for a moment it's COVID (I think he had it in March) but have ordered a home testing kit.

My question is this: IF he stops coughing today (his coughs can be quite short lived), would you send him to nursery tomorrow?
I think I know the answer (he should self-isolate even if symptoms go away quickly) but he's only been back two weeks after having to self isolate for two weeks because another child in his room at nursery tested positive. Also, DS frequently gets short-lived coughs. I can't bear for this to keep happening all winter!

@catpoooffender 🤷🏼‍♀️Common sense. For me it may be different as my child has asthma so they almost always have a cough. This is made worse when they get a cold AND during winter months. I cannot and will not test for a cough unless it’s out the ordinary.

However it’s an insult to everyone if you feel like a test is required, to then crack on as normal and expose yourself/your child to everyone as normal.

Well that's interesting @Planty13 because I suspect DS has mild asthma but he's not been tested as he's a bit young.

I don't really see how you making a judgment call that your DCs' cough is nothing to worry about is fine, whereas because I made a split second decision to ask for a test, I no longer have the right to make that decision.

Your nursery and a lot of ppl meed to know what a continuous cough means before they order tests, or have nurseries/schools sending kids home.

a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

@catpoooffender if your OCD affects you in knowing when to test you can ask your GP for advice or call 119 for advice.
It saves your worry and also tests that may not need done.
