Age and severity of Covid 19 symptoms

Sb2012 · 11/10/2020 23:23

If you have had coronavirus how severe were your symptoms?
My friends 38 yrs old and 30 years old both have both tested positive and have the same symptoms of fatigue, chills and no sense of smell or taste. That’s it. No cough or high fever whatsoever. Their wives have zero symptoms but both positive and the same ages as their husbands. The 38 year olds have kids and their kids have tested negative.
Both my friends don’t have underlying issues but both go to the gym regularly. One eats healthy the other one eats greasy takeouts 90% of the time but both have perfect BMIs.

So just out of interest how old are you or your age range and how severe were your symptoms??

35, very sick at home for six months. Bedridden for four. Still can't exercise though I am improving. Very fit with BMI of 20. Total lottery!

Sb2012 · 12/10/2020 09:46

Oh no. Sorry to hear that you had it so bad. Hope you are over the worse of it and back to “normal” soon.
It really is odd. The 75 year old mother in law of the 38 year old friend had it too and also had a mild version. This was recent but back in March and April I knew of a couple of people who got it and really suffered but the recent local cases seem to be milder.
Wonder why some people get it so mild and some really suffer.

I’m 44 and just thought I had a cold
Wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for the positive test result

bookworm14 · 12/10/2020 10:08

I’m 38 and had two days of aches, runny nose, upset stomach and slight loss of taste. It was very mild. Didn’t know for sure it was COVID until I took an antibody test four months later.

IndecentFeminist · 12/10/2020 10:10

In my extended family:
-12 yr old brought it home from school (before first lockdown)...minor cold

  • her 33 yr old pregnant mum: slight cough
  • her 37 year old superfit personal trainer stepdad: really nasty cough, coughed up blood for a bit, no medical attention needed
  • my 65 yr old aunt, ex smoker, numerous health issues: minor cold, only knew she had it from antibody testing on return to work in healthcare setting

Which antibody test? I’ve had very similar to you and now I’m thinking it must have been the virus as even now my sense of taste is not perfect. I just don’t know where to get an antibody test from. Anyone had the Superdrug antibody test is that any good?

Sb2012 I work in a hospital (non-medical role) and at one point in July all staff were being offered free antibody tests, so I got mine then.

Interestingly a number of my colleagues had positive antibody tests despite never having had any symptoms.

I was 54, had fever, cough, chills, talking absolute gibberish when temp was so high, headache, I hurt everywhere, was so fatigued even standing up was awful, couldn't taste a thing if I tried to eat anything, had eye problems and upset stomach.

ifonly4 · 12/10/2020 12:01

I know five who've had it.

One in 50s has the antibodies, only time he's been ill was a cold before lockdown, nothing else

One late 50s in April, told me yesterday her body still hurts

One 50s in April, never quite recovered and ended up with organ failure (no previous health issues) passed away recently

One early 60s in June, she got down to village last week and had to phone for a lift due to being breathless

One late 70s, had sickness bug in March, collapsed and found to have it, passed away five days later.

DH has it now. So far, no cough, just like a bad cold but without the sniffles - he had a fever, aches and pains. He started on Wednesday, he's starting to improve now - out of bed yesterday, but still getting really tired just from going up the stairs. Fingers crossed it will continue to improve. He's 37.

Pootles34 · 12/10/2020 12:07

So sorry for your losses ifonly - I hope your friends that are still struggling recover soon.

Belle0705 · 12/10/2020 12:13

I know a 32 year old female who has it now but nearly finished isolation. Headaches and aches and pains. Has had friends delivering mcdonalds breakfasts most days and has managed to care for two kids alone throughout. She's actually more concerned restaurants will close before her isolation finishes 🙈

57 and had fever, appetite loss, violent headache, sore throat, aches, raised lymph node, fatigue, nausea, vomiting. No need for hospital but unpleasant. Cough came a few days later along with mild shortness of breath. I had a milder repeat of some of the same symptoms weeks later and the fatigue/shortness of breath lingered months although is gone now. I also developed asthma. Husband of same age who was already asthmatic had mild cold symptoms, so it is quite a lottery.

My 18 year old son had it, high temp, chills, extreme fatigue, headache that caused him to vomit, sore throat, had to sit up for 24 hours because he felt he couldn't breathe when lying down, his cough wasn't that bad apart from one morning when he coughed up a lot of phelgm. He was in bed for 13 days and lost 8 lbs in weight and he was already underweight, it took him 6 weeks to fully recover.
I have a suspicision i caught it too, i am early 50's, had sore throat, headache, tight chest and bit of an upset stomach over the weekend of the week he became ill. DH also had a headache and slight sore throat at similar time he is late 50's, 16 year old dd had no symptoms.

everythingisginandroses · 12/10/2020 20:19

I'm 44 and it made me feel much rougher than I expected - I'm fit and healthy and generally shake things off easily. I went downhill with breathlessness, exhaustion, diarrhoea and heart palpitations between days 7-13 and low-grade fever hung around for weeks. My lungs still felt achy when I lay down to sleep at night until 5-6 months on. DH is 49 and was similarly affected. DS (11 at the time) was feverish for a couple of nights, fatigued for a while.

IheartNiles · 12/10/2020 20:22
  1. Aches and pains then felt ok. A week later mild shortness of breath. Soon recovered, had worse colds. DH just felt a bit achy and hot one night. DD no symptoms but had symptoms post ski trip.
Figmentofmyimagination · 12/10/2020 20:24

Mine was similar to what you describe - sweaty, very tired, loss of taste and smell, sudden passing sense of being poisoned. 100% recovered in 8 days.

Age 56.

MadCatLady71 · 12/10/2020 20:37

Friends had it, both in their fifties, relatively fit. Both were very, very poorly for a fortnight - it was like a really bad bout of the flu, with the added bonus of a migraine-like headache. After the worst passed they had another two weeks of fatigue and generally feeling under the weather.

Minttea77 · 12/10/2020 20:50

42, fit and healthy generally, got it in March, didn’t realise-diareah, tight chest, sore throat..felt hot but no temp and no cough, not bad at all.
Hit me badly in May-aching in legs, dizziness, foggy head, stinging eyes, heart palpitations, numbness around mouth, tingling in body, anxiety, nightmares and so on.
7 months in now, much better than in May/June but still have tight chest, aching all over at times, irregular heart rate, dizziness, foggy headed, trouble sleeping, nightmares...it’s the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. I barely had a cold in 8 years, scared it won’t get better ever.

Kitcat122 · 12/10/2020 21:25

Husband felt achey and tired with intermittent periods of breathlessness and a sore chest. Better after 2 weeks but mentioned shortness of breath for a couple of months afterwards. I had the same initially but developed terrible chest pain and shortness of breath at about day 10. Chest still not right 7 months on.

shoofle · 12/10/2020 22:48

So random how it affects people. I've never been so ill in all my life!

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 12/10/2020 23:18

50s. Sick for 6 weeks with moderately bad symptoms.
