No idea. Maybe wait until announcements tomorrow.

Theme Parks that are staffed and are operating properly shouldn't have to close but as nobody is following even the most basic precautions in outdoor play areas it makes sense to close them. Last time I went passed one of the local ones with 2 swings and a small climbing frame (and nothing else) around school closing time there was at least 50 people in it including kids in uniform from at least 3 different schools with no social distancing to be seen.

BogRollBOGOF · 11/10/2020 23:35

There is zero sense in closing outdoor play areas. The virus does not last well for effective transmission in outdoor spaces, and social distancing is hardly problematic in the winter months. Far more damage is caused by having under exercised, under stimulated children stuck at home than being allowed to play out and there hasn't been any hint of play areas being instrumental in viral spread in the three months since they opened.

Bingbongbinglybong · 11/10/2020 23:55

Pointless closing outdoor play areas, it's winter and they will be barely used anyway for several months. It isn't small juds who are spreading the virus, it is young adults and people breaking rules.

megletthesecond · 11/10/2020 23:59

I don't think they'll close outdoor playgrounds again. It's pretty low risk.

SeekingAnswers3 · 12/10/2020 00:53

If they close the parks again I actually think I’ll loose the plot. That isn’t fair to children in the slightest. I get closing inside areas because of ventilation. That makes sense, but not parks. If children are able to go to school because they say it’s safe, then how can they say parks with outdoor equipment aren’t?!

Sorry for the rant.

And if they do close them again this time that’s probably the only rule I will stick my finger up to.

When the parks closed in the spring it was a shitty time.

Viv0321 · 12/10/2020 08:33

Hope not

Anything that can be enjoyed mainly outdoors should remain open and should absolutely not close. The councils can also get busy putting the swings next to each other back on as well. Arseholes.

Powerof4 · 12/10/2020 10:51

I hope not. I've been compliant above and beyond the spirit of the guidance, let alone following the actual laws, but I've realised this is a red line for me. I'm not punishing my child with a completely arbitrary restriction if the playgrounds are closed this time.

Triangularbubble · 12/10/2020 10:56

Most theme parks virtually shut down over winter anyway, barring a few “Christmas special” events. I don’t think they’re a major issue. Similarly, how crowded will a typical outdoor playground be in November? Soft play type places may well get shut again though.

movingonup20 · 12/10/2020 11:39

Most theme parks are closing for winter shortly so not a big issue. Parks are a different issue because they are not supervised and parents are simply not social distancing themselves so no hope the kids will! There's a sign on ours that says a maximum of 10 children at a time (it's not large) and parents should ensure their children do not mix outside of their household - there was at least 30 crammed in yesterday

AgentCooper · 12/10/2020 11:43

Why on earth would they close the outdoor play parks? Just to make sure there’s absolutely fuck all open for young children, all bases covered?
