Northern Ireland, is there an announcement tomorrow?

I was expecting more restrictions last week but it looks like there's no money to fund a lockdown so until Boris outlines his plans we are in limbo?
Do you find out anything tomorrow?
What do you think will happen for our wee country. The rumours of beds filling up etc in hospitals are worrying.

I was wondering the same, OP, I too live in Northern Ireland.

It is very worrying indeed. I do think we are now at a point were we need another lockdown but I seriously despair for the economy, jobs and physical / mental health

blueboxgoat · 11/10/2020 21:51

I think it'll be the end of my job if we have another lockdown. My company lost so much money the last time and with being leisure might be forced to close again. I'm in a role that is an added perk to members and not really required for the running of the place so think I would be one of the first to go 😕
I'm also worried about the dc maybe coming out school again, it wasn't so bad last time as the weather was good and it was a novelty but I've such a good improvement on how happy they are since they went back ☹️

Oh that’s awful! I’m sure you must be extremely worried!

And in regards to schools, I think they said last week that they will keep schools open if we do go back to full lockdown

Cherryblossomandcornflakes · 11/10/2020 21:59

Also in NI, things are not looking good with our numbers and I’d love to know what will happen next. It’s the uncertainty that is so hard, and it’s so frustrating of watching Boris making his big announcements but realising that they don’t apply to us, and that we’ve got to wait for Stormont to make their own decisions.

Newname1236 · 11/10/2020 21:59

I dont know if there's another announcement tomorrow ? I think next would be to out the restrictions in derry and strabane Council into the rest of the country before the circuit breaker...

Whenismumhome · 11/10/2020 22:00

Does anyone think they’ll just close restaurants / bars etc etc? And keep other places open

Newname1236 · 11/10/2020 22:00

sorry to hear your job might not be safe...all care agencies here are doing major recruitment with no experience needed if that's so.ething you'd consider?

Cherryblossomandcornflakes · 11/10/2020 22:00

So sorry Bluebox. That is so worrying.

StatisticalSense · 11/10/2020 22:01

It's not the English's job to bail NI (or Scotland) out because your leadership was doing busy criticising the English to do anything that worked.

Cherryblossomandcornflakes · 11/10/2020 22:03

I’m hearing rumours of a 2-3 week half term for schools, but not a full closure as such.

halcyondays · 11/10/2020 22:04

They did, but apparently a circuit breaker could include closing schools for an extra 1-2 weeks at Halloween.

Can’t see how a circuit breaker of 2-3 is going to be enough with numbers so high.

Think they were promised some extra money on Friday as well as the furlough replacement scheme, so would think there might be some news after the Executive meets tomorrow.

Whenismumhome · 11/10/2020 22:05

What is a circuit breaker? Does that mean literally every single non essential business would close?

Does it mean you stay at home unless you have a reason for leaving?

blueboxgoat · 11/10/2020 22:08

I just hope they give us some idea soon, i was all geared up for it on Thurs then it was just that wishy washy message about wearing your mask more often 🙄

It’s just all so unsettling. Wish this was just a bad dream we could all just wake up from
Newname1236 · 11/10/2020 22:39

Is it true out hospitals are nearly at capacity? I seen on fscrbook a consultant in derry saying altnagelvin is basically full

Cocolapew · 11/10/2020 22:42

I work in a school and we've been told we definitely aren't closing extra at Halloween, I think it actually might be staying open for children of Drs, nurses etc. Though they would need us to agree to work our holidays for that to work.

Ffsnosexallowed · 11/10/2020 22:42

It is the UK government's job to use its retained powers to support Scotland/NIreland and Wales

WTF are you waffling on about?
DeliciouslyFemale · 11/10/2020 22:51

@Cherryblossomandcornflakes

I’m hearing rumours of a 2-3 week half term for schools, but not a full closure as such.
My youngest goes to college and I was discussing with another parent, how they still haven’t asked us to pay the fees yet. They’ve said it’s something to do with a computer glitch, but we suspect that the college might stay shut after Halloween, if things keep going on the way they are. The young adults all have SNs, etc and various serious underlying conditions. There’s currently only five to a class, which is less that half. I think the first case of any student or tutor with Covid will see it shut.

It actually feels as if this is going to be worse than last time. The nursing home two doors away has had its second outbreak. Nearly 20 dead last time and two of my clients have been affected by Covid. It feels a lot ‘closer’ to me this time. It doesn’t help that there are so many wankers completely taking the piss regarding mask wearing.

PumpkinsandAutumnLeaves · 11/10/2020 23:01

If they close schools during the circuit breaker will childcare settings also close?

DeliciouslyFemale · 11/10/2020 23:03

I never thought about that.
nicky2512 · 11/10/2020 23:19

I don’t know what I want to happen any more. We have had a big rise locally (Co Antrim). I initially thought a circuit breaker would be great as my Dd is at university and Ds is at school and I’m v worried about them bringing it home.
Then when you think about the impact on others losing jobs etc it doesn’t seem such a good idea.

Something has to happen though. Lots of people around me seem to be carrying on as if there’s nothing wrong.

DeliciouslyFemale · 11/10/2020 23:44

I’m in Antrim too. The number of selfish arses that go around shops here, without a mask and the staff that don’t wear masks but think nothing if leaning past you, is unreal.

WilsonMilson · 11/10/2020 23:59

I’m in NI too, agree that mask wearing compliance is poor compared to other parts of the UK (was in Scotland in summer where compliance was noticeably better).

I’m so worried about my dc at school. He’s currently off school as a person in his year has covid so they went the year home. My dc is fine and due to go back later this week, but I’m beside myself worrying. And yet also worried about his education. Can’t win.

Me and DH went to Ikea yesterday, I don’t know what possessed us as we have been so careful for months, but fed up with being cooped up we went ahead. Well, it was a nightmare. The place was heaving and no social distancing at all. Once you got up the stairs at the entrance you couldn’t come back down, so when I realised how packed it was I just wanted to get out but couldn’t. Had to walk through the whole bloody marketplace to get out and was actually shaking by the end. I’m not a normally anxious person, but I felt trapped and was in actual tears by the time I got to the door. Sobbed my heart out when we got back to the car. This is what COVID has done to me, and I think I’m a pretty level headed person, so I have no idea what more nervous and vulnerable people must feel like.

DeliciouslyFemale · 12/10/2020 00:03

I got butterflies in my stomach, reading that! I made a similar mistake when I decided to take my 25 yr old vulnerable child out to the shop with me. Wtf I thought I was doing taking her out on a Saturday, I don’t know! I ended up handing the basket to an employee and apologising, then leaving. It was awful. She wears a mask and a visor and I swear there was a couple of assholes deliberately getting up close, because they thought it was funny. Never again!
