  • ie no mixing of households and closure of hospitality - do non essential shops remain open as well as art galleries and the like?

Shops are likely to remain open but I really can't see any way that they could possibly keep art galleries open without completely pissing off large swathes of the population considering their typical clientele.

amusedtodeath1 · 11/10/2020 21:35

Details for tier 3 were still under discussion last I heard, so all I know is it will be tougher than tier 2. Not very helpful, sorry.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 11/10/2020 21:39

None of us know the answer to that but The Sun newspaper thinks it likely non-essential shops will close for tier 3.

Wouldn't art galleries come more under the leisure category than an essential retail outlet so probably not

Viv0321 · 11/10/2020 21:43

Play parks? Theme parks?

Yetiyoga · 11/10/2020 21:46

Such a mess isn't it.
Covid is spreading in schools and universities. He isn't going to close those so instead he will ban people from seeing their families (😪) and close pubs and restaurants (in certain areas)

I don't know what the answer is really because I guess schools need to stay open. But pubs are following strict guidelines now. Museums and the like you wear masks and social distance.

I don't know how long I could cope with not seeing family again. It is torture.

Completely disagree. I think the "typical clientele" are desperate for things to be open, and for younger people to stop dictating to them and assuming that they want to be shielded.
StatisticalSense · 11/10/2020 21:50

@RonaLisa
It's not about whether the clientele want to visit but rather about not limiting the restrictions to venues largely enjoyed by the younger and poorer members of society.

Do you think dance classes will go? My oldest will genuinely break her heart if they do, shes had 2 weeks of isolation and is missing dance horribly, it's all she seems bothered about. I've made half the playroom into a dance studio for her during main lockdown but its not big enough really, she does a flip and sends teddies raining down, or slips on toy car little DD has left out and goes flying. They're fed up of zoom classes now

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/10/2020 22:04

I don't see how they can't close none essential shops if they're closing other places, I work in a shop close to but not in local lockdown area, and all of the lockdown areas come for days out shopping..

Autumngoldleaf · 11/10/2020 22:05

There are so many flexible ways they could tackle the school problems and yet there seems to be absolute belligerence to do anything about it.

Chuck em all it and take away monitoring and pretend it's not happening.

The new tier system is for 6 months (reviewed monthly) People might be able to cope with Primark being shut for a few weeks but it becomes an essential shop if this might be the case for 6 months.

@Itsabeautifuldayheyhey

Thank,you for the Sun link

It surprises me sometimes how clear and helpful the Sun is on a number of matters

(though they struggled here with the vagueness of the leaks )

My guess is that they wont shut non- essential shops / galleries etc but will do a travel ban so only allowed to go to work, education or shop for essentials. This way, they wont have to provide a financial support package.
