Does anyone still avoid public toilets?

OP posts:

Me, but I only ever used them before if I was totally desperate.

Yes. If I need to go, I need to go. Its not an option really.

Those saying No, are you all weeing behind bushes or down alley ways or something? I end up with shoes full of wee if I try that.

Defenbaker · 16/10/2020 00:19

I've always avoided them, they're usually quite grubby and smell bad too. I'd only use one if I really couldn't wait, and even then I'd hover over the toilet rather than sit on the germ ridden seat (which I'd lift first, to avoid splashing).

No. Why would you - it's one of the situations in life which always, covid or no covid, ends with you washing your hands (or using hand gel if that's not available). I can't see the risk.

Yes relative to a hard flu year it is factually true; perhaps do your research rather than dismiss out of hand as first check the ONS numbers?

There were 394 deaths from flu from jan to august 2020. www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/deathsduetocoronaviruscovid19comparedwithdeathsfrominfluenzaandpneumoniaenglandandwales/deathsoccurringbetween1januaryand31august2020

If you are thinking of the 2017-18 winter where there were 50,000 excess deaths then relatively few of those were due to the flu. See e.g. www.bmj.com/content/361/bmj.k2795/rr-6

No. I don't understand people who are too fastidious to use a clean public loo. Obviously it is different if they are dirty.

I have been to Meadowhall a couple of times and used the loos there. They are always clean. Each cubicle has alcohol cleaner that you can use to clean the seat, flush handle and door handle.

No, just take care with touching handles, flush etc, wear a mask and wash hands well. Also don't use air hand dryers. Amazing the number of people who are STILL either waving their hands under the tap for 3 seconds or not washing hands at all.

On another point, was wondering as you do, what's the story with the vapour coming out of people who vape. We were walking along the street and the person in front was vaping and the cloud was like a steam train. I've tried to find any information but no luck - can covid be spread through vape exhalations?
