Dd has 1 mild symptom but has just found out someone that she has been in contact with has tested positive.
Dd has just had test.
Obv we are now all self isolating. If the test comes back negative can we end the isolation period or not?
TIA

What was the symptom she had?

dementedpixie · 11/10/2020 14:14

And no i dont think her isolation would end as she could be in the incubation period from the contact she had with the positive case

Thatwentbadly · 11/10/2020 14:14

No DD still needs to isolate for 14 days from her last contact with the person with corona virus.

Newname4now · 11/10/2020 14:15

A continuous tickly cough, which now seems to have stopped 🙄

I thought if you’ve had contact with a positive case you need to isolate for 14 days regardless of a negative result (20-30% false negatives)

99% sure this is case.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 11/10/2020 14:16

Your dd will still need to complete her 14 day isolation.
If her test comes back negative the rest of the household can go out and about but she must continue to self isolate as a close contact.
If it is positive whole household and her close contacts self isolate

Mindymomo · 11/10/2020 14:19

I think it will depend on when she last saw her friend who tested positive. I think you may have to ring 111 to get the correct answer.

Planty13 · 11/10/2020 14:21

She will need to isolate for 14 days from the last time she saw the person who has tested positive

Newname4now · 11/10/2020 14:22

Thank you all. It's very confusing. I think we will err on the side of caution regardless.

no one else need isolate unless she presents symptoms, if the tickle is considred a symptom then everyone in family should isolate - all barr DD 14 days DD if she somes back positive 10 days

raviolidreaming · 11/10/2020 15:15

Your daughter will still need to isolate if her result is negative. The message with the result has advice on it.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 11/10/2020 15:15

RB68 - But she has tested so at some point thought they were symptoms. No point in stopping now and going out and about while waiting for a result. The family should self isolate until the result is known.
If positive they continue isolating
If negative only dd continues her "close contact self isolation "

NHS Advice says

If you test negative (the test did not find coronavirus):
• keep self-isolating for the rest of the 14 days from when you were last in contact with the person who has coronavirus – as you could get symptoms after being tested
