Would you eat out now (inside dining)?

I really miss going out for a weekend cafe or pub lunch with my family but my husband thinks it's not worth the risk eating inside now that the virus is spreading again like wildfire. He's probably right - the last time we sat inside for a pub lunch (in August), I felt very uncomfortable being so close to the people at the next table.

Most outdoor seating gets booked up really quickly. I feel like for almost every outing since March we've brought packed picnic lunches. I am SO sick of packed sandwiches and would just love to sit down somewhere with warm food for once, just like pre-Covid times!

So just that really, are you comfortable going to lunch if it's going to be inside?

@Terrace58 Is the takeaway option really as good as when eating in ? For me it's about someone's else cleaning up afterwards so it doesn't appeal.

mightbealittlebitmad · 11/10/2020 06:50

I've been out loads since everything reopened, eaten food and had drinks inside several places, work in a pub, been round several shops, at the gym constantly and I went to a theme park.

Life is too short to be missing out on all the fun things in life. I'm not worried about catching covid, spreading it because that's part of life. I wouldn't intentionally go and cough on someone but the only people I get close to share the same opinion as me.

starfish4 · 11/10/2020 07:01

I would, unless our numbers go up significantly, but only the two Greene King pubs near us. They're the only ones we've been to where staff constantly wear masks, tables are clean, proper distancing, one way systems and you can't get through this door without registering for track and trace.

bigchris · 11/10/2020 08:24

bigchris, do you mean they have mechanical ventilation or the windows open? If not, then they are not well ventilated

Windows and doors open mostly

Pubs aren't crowded and stuffy like they used to be, not near me anyway

I'm getting sick of freezing on the bus though with the windows open, especially if I'm wet from standing at the bus stop in the rain !

bigchris · 11/10/2020 08:26

Oh yes we've got a greene king starfish, very well organised and can order from the app

Fizbosshoes · 11/10/2020 08:35

We decided in september we wouldnt now that we are both back at work, using public transport and DC are back at school, we would limit non essential contact including going to pubs cafes and restaurants. It was DH suggestion and he is generally quite blase about stuff.

Calligraphy572 · 11/10/2020 08:38

Eating indoors in cafes or restaurants is one of the few things I will not do.

I go to work (in a school), the dc go to school, I go to the supermarket, shops, etc. I'm clearly not hiding away. I just prefer to avoid the risks that I can avoid, IFYSWIM.

For example, I cycle now to avoid public transport.

And dining out with a bunch of maskless strangers in the same place? No thanks. To me, it's not worth the risk.

whatisforteamum · 11/10/2020 08:41

I work on hospitality.Staff wear masks tables are distanced. There is an app to order on.We were full Saturday lunch. Some people feel.It is safe enough or worth the risk.

BewilderedDoughnut · 11/10/2020 08:42

I have been! It’s awesome!

cathyandclare · 11/10/2020 08:43

Yes, we've eaten out loads and enjoyed it. This is from the weekly surveillance report from PHE about origins of traceable infections outside the home.

Would you eat out now (inside dining)?
UntamedWisteria · 11/10/2020 08:44

Yes, in a low infection area, which we are, but not all the time!

Although we had to eat out a couple of weeks ago in a very high infection area as we were travelling.

Chose a pub out of town, website was very reassuring and when we arrived could not have felt safer - wide spaces between tables, staff all masked, let us pour wine ourselves, all felt very reassuring.

ComicePear · 11/10/2020 08:45

We've eaten out a few times, I don't have a problem with it.

Marchitectmummy · 11/10/2020 08:45

We were eating out everywhere but now the weather has turned and most of thr places we like are not mechanically ventilated we won't be.

megletthesecond · 11/10/2020 08:45

No.

CeeJay81 · 11/10/2020 08:47

I have sat inside a few cafes/coffee shops here in a rural area. I wouldn't in a large town/city but that's a long way from me. I shall also be avoiding them in half term when the tourists come.

Katjolo · 11/10/2020 08:50

Yes

Ilovemypantry · 11/10/2020 08:51

@AuntieMarys

We eat out at least twice a week. I don't give it a second thought.
Why would you not give it a second thought seeing as we're in the middle of a pandemic which is spread mostly in indoor settings such as bars, pubs and restaurants?
Silverspring · 11/10/2020 08:54

With 3 teenagers at school, a lunch in a socially distanced and well sanitised restaurant is probably the most Covid secure environment my family will be in all week bar my home.

Itisasecret · 11/10/2020 08:57

Yes, this past month, I’ve been eating out, going on day trips, theme parks and museums.

They are lot safer than schools. I have absolutely no intention of stopping at the moment. If they can cram all of us into tiny, unventilated classrooms. I can enjoy eating out at socially distanced tables.

Thewiseoneincognito · 11/10/2020 08:58

Once in the summer and to be honest I felt on edge the whole time. Hopefully this week they will shut down the bars and pubs and restaurants will follow suit being made to go back to takeaway only. Honestly it’s not worth the risk. Roll on lockdown 2.

WankPuffins · 11/10/2020 09:01

We had lunch in a pub yesterday. First time we’ve eaten out since Feb (we didn’t l leave the house from March until Sept, I only went to the hospital for my pregnancy appointments and to give birth).

I was so worried but in the past month I’ve totally changed. I can’t explain it. Will be going out to eat a lot more and out more in general.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 11/10/2020 09:02

Nope. About the most risky thing you can do other than going to school or working on a covid ward

alphasox · 11/10/2020 09:03

We ate inside a pub as a family last weekend for the first time since February and I really didn’t feel safe and couldn’t relax or enjoy it, so we won’t be going back to that for a while.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/10/2020 09:03

Yes in our village pub as it has spaced out the tables to over the required distance, haven’t been anywhere else

bumblingbovine49 · 11/10/2020 09:05

Not eaten or drunk indoors in a cafe or restaurant since March. I have gone inside to get takeaway food and drink ( but not if there are more than 1-2 people in the queue) I have sat at outdoor tables to eat and drink -, again mostly only if it is not too crowded even outside.

It seems pretty obvious to me that restaurants, cafes and pubs are relatively high brisk for picking up any infectious disease, especially in winter when having doors and windows open is difficult. Obviously you can open windows and doors but I personally would not pay to sit in my cost shivering while eating . Why pay money for what would be an uncomfortable experience for me

I love eating out usually so I do really miss it also DH and I used to go for coffee quite a lot so miss that too. Takeaway is not quite the same
