Do you get a test for a child who has had a fever and seems fine now? Bunged up nose and fever since yesterday. GP didn’t mention it just said keep an eye for chest infection , ear infections etc but so far he just bunged up nose but not runny.

Depends if you have anywhere to go. I mean you should isolate now as he's had a fever. But if he isn't in childcare etc and isolating him is ok for you then I wouldn't bother putting him through it.

I had to for DD2 as she was at nursery and so I had to test her to send her back. Also she had to have a test in order for DD1 to be able to return to school.

But if you don't have other kids and isolating wouldn't cause issue I wouldn't bother with the drama of testing !

Thanks but my son is at preschool he is 3, my daughter is also at school? I’m sure it’s a viral cold, he gets this around this time of year. I’m just not sure as I don’t drive so been told I’m allowed to use public t ta snort by 111, GP didn’t even mention it she just said ask school for their protocol. I guess I can order one just to be sure but I can’t be sue he will take it as he will not take calpol and I have to put it in a drink.

Yes. It’s one of the symptoms so you definitely should.

If you don’t feel you can test him then you should all isolate for 14 days and assume he is positive. These are the guidelines and you just can’t assume it’s just a cold.

Ah if there's kids in childcare and school then yes you need to either test, or all of you isolate for two weeks. They're not going to let him into nursery or your older one into school without proof of a negative test.

My oldest school needed proof of my youngest's negative test for her to return, and nursery obviously needed proof for her to go back

Thank you! I guess it’s what to do just GP just said to ask school as they all have different protocols, my eldest has missed so much already but it is what it is. I guess it’s not going to get better as they both come down with something at least once or twice during winter.

I know OP it's a nightmare isn't it. We've had a brief isolation so far but it's not going to be a good winter !
