DM has a carer who comes in 4 times a week. Probably more for company than anything, she takes DM to appointments, they go shopping and out for a coffee, no personal care involved.
The carers great and we trust her judgement completely, I know she wouldn’t put DM at risk intentionally.
She went on holiday today and other than me telling her to have a lovely time (I phoned her to check an appointment time for DM next week) I didn’t think anymore of it.
However DB has just phoned, he’s been on the phone to DM and she told him carer is now on holiday, she’s gone to NE England where according to DB Covid is ‘rife’. He now thinks carer shouldn’t come to DM for two weeks after her return.
I was thinking that was ridiculous but now I’m feeling unsure, DM does have some health conditions (she’s 85) but wasn’t told to shield.

Presume from your post that your DM and the carer live in an area with much lower Covid rates than the North East? I think a lot depends on what the carer's holiday involves, eg if she'll be seeing lots of relatives in Newcastle I think your brother has a point. If she's gone with a partner she lives with anyway and is staying in a self-catering cottage and not having close contact with anyone else then the risk may be no higher than normal. The other issue is whether not seeing the carer for an additional 2 weeks would risk having an adverse impact on your mother's health.

Yes, your DBro is right to be considering this.

And, assuming your DMum has normal capacity, it is her call.
