Who do you think will be shielding next?

So apparently the shielding categories were changing. Does anyone know, or suspect, what will be the new categories? Or will everyone that shielded on the first wave, just be notified again?

It's just going to be a better informed version of the first lot. Because we know more now.

scaevola · 09/10/2020 14:55

They haven't made any changes to the categories, though children should have been individually reviewed by their consultants with aim on removing as many from the list as is safe.

I think this contains the latest version (published 29 Sept)

I haven't read detailed evidence as to particular conditions so I'm not going to speculate over which conditions may and may not be included but generally I imagine it'll be based on a combination of factors rather than just a list of conditions as it was last time. In general those who are older or overweight will be more likely to have to shield and those who are younger and of a medically normal weight are less likely to have to do so. In particular I imagine very few children will be on the list but many obese or elderly people who weren't originally asked to shield may find that they are this time around.

Scaevola - wow there’s no change!! I thought they were going to add in the older age group plus obesity also.

I'm waiting on the edge of my seat to see if they target the most at risk group - middle aged to elderly men carrying a bit of extra weight.

Who's taking bets?

That would be my DHs whole team out of action.

There was rumours in the press a week or so ago about the possibility of shielding all over 50s, maybe that's what you were thinking of?

That's ridiculous. Who's going to do the work of teachers, doctors, nurses, etc who happen to be over 50? We'll be back to schools and hospital wards closing due to staff shortages like we had in March. Who's going to pay their wages when they're not working? The Govt and scientific/medical advisers are proving themselves to be completely and utterly incapable.

Looking at list both my children will still need to shield.DD has combines immune deficiency (she has not been able return to college as to risky .Youngest Ds sadly qualify to we are 6th course of steroids in as many months

Flossie44 · 09/10/2020 22:11

Dc1 has had 6 courses of steroids in 5 months plus on shed loads of meds that qualify alone.
Dc2 is immune suppressed and has additional
Medical issues.
I’m watching and waiting. Both children don’t want to shield. They want to carry on their life!! However as a mum I want to protect them and shield til spring!!
