FgS - Conflicting advice

Childminder sent a group text on Wednesday night (DD1 had been with her all day Wednesday) to say her DD21 had a new continuous cough, she was closing her doors and they were being tested yesterday. Results today: Childminder negative. Daughter positive.

Childminder household now isolating for 14 days. She has confirmed her daughter has had no close contact with the kids.

Childminder has said we DONT need to isolate UNLESS we start displaying symptoms or has a positive test.

However, one of the mums has just replied after calling to rearrange a hospital appointment and was told by the receptionist that EVERY household who has a child at the minders has to isolate for 7 days, irrespective of symptoms.

Who's right?!! 🤦‍♀️

I think officially the childminder.

PatriciaHolm · 09/10/2020 09:38

Yes; if your child had no close contact with the positive person, you don't need to isolate. Only close contacts do.

Ickabog · 09/10/2020 09:38

If none of the children have had contact with the positive case then the childminder is correct.

MrsWarleggan · 09/10/2020 09:40

Wonderful. Thankyou! Apparently the receptionist was really shitty when she asked for advice!! 🤦‍♀️

But did the receptionist mean that every family who uses a childminder and had a member going in for a procedure had to isolate, rather than that every household linked to the childminder had to isolate?

There is general guidance in childminders , I've looked it up before, will try and find it.

MrsWarleggan · 09/10/2020 09:44

@Augustbreeze

Every household linked to childminder apparently 🤷‍♀️ thankyou 😊

There is the DfE helpline number here which apparently can be rung by parents for advice:

The childminder is right. It’s only close contacts of the daughter that need to isolate. If the childminder later gets symptoms and tests positive then the children need to isolate. Whole households would only isolate if their child developed symptoms.

MrsWarleggan · 09/10/2020 09:56

Thankyou very much for the clarification 😊

The receptionist is talking rubbish and I'm a bit concerned that she is telling people incorrect info. Even if your dd had been a contact, it would be her only needing to isolate for 14 days.

It's worrying that so many people don't seem to understand the rules!

dalmationsandcats · 09/10/2020 10:27

Also the CM shouldn't have had a test, as she didn't have symptoms Confused

MrsWarleggan · 09/10/2020 10:46

@dalmationsandcats

Agreed. I don't know her rationale for having one. No one else in the household did. Although as one of the parents it's reassuring to know she was negative.
