Covid in DC’s school :(

I knew it was coming but am somehow still a bit shocked... anyone else experienced this? Not in DCs bubble but can already trace a direct link through siblings. Not sure what we can do really other than keep up hand washing, wearing masks at drop off, eat healthy/sleep well (not managing the last one currently!).

Same here. 2 kids and a teacher in yr 10. I have a year 7. I'm dealing with by just ploughing on.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 09/10/2020 08:03

Yup we are in the same boat. It will eventually get around the whole school as kids have siblings in classes that are infected but those kids can still go to school. It just doesn't make any sense, no wonder the rate is rising.

GunsAndShips · 09/10/2020 08:05

Yep. Rural school. One case 3 weeks ago, not in dd's bubble. Several more in the same bubble so that bubble went home and the school closed for a deep clean.

My DD tested positive yesterday.

FourTeaFallOut · 09/10/2020 08:08

We had a case in DC's school three weeks ago and there was no further spread within the school. It's not a perfect system but the domino of bubbles popping isn't inevitable.

3littlewords · 09/10/2020 08:09

Its inevitable it will probably come into all schools at some point as all viruses do. All you can do is keep an eye out for symptoms, make sure you don't get too close to anyone who's vulnerable incase it's spreading asymptomatically but ultimately if your DC does end up with covid the chances are it will be mild and not long lasting, try to keep things in perspective

GingerandTilly · 09/10/2020 08:12

My kids’ Primary school has had two bubbles close. My own primary school has had a whole key stage close but this is not unusual where we are as we are in the North East and in a lockdown area. It is worrying though as me and dh are both cv and I care for my elderly ecv Mum too. In my family we all now wearing masks in school and have our own hand gels. Not much else we can do.

FallingStar · 09/10/2020 08:15

It's in our school too, it's inevitable really. In fact I've heard of cases in most of my friends kids schools too.
All you can do is keep up with the hygeine. In fact our school had a confirmed case and only those who were in front and beside the person were sent home too. Class wasn't closed and rest of class going to school as normal. Shock

GreenPlum · 09/10/2020 08:17

We've had eight cases incl two teachers. DS class not been affected so far.

It's in every school in my area. There have been 850 school cases in my city!

Toomanycats99 · 09/10/2020 08:19

Both my daughters school have had cases. I think one is a staff member as no mention of children being sent home.

Other one is a bit closer to home - 2 separate incidents and in one of them my daughters friend who she travels to school with is isolating as a close contact.

Unfortunately school won't tell even the pupils isolating who the positive case was so they have no idea how close a contact they really are!

CovidCanFuckOffNow · 09/10/2020 08:21

2 out of 3 of my DC's have been on self isolation due to cases. Mid-Hertfordshire here. Don't think it will be the only times...

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/10/2020 08:21

First case in DS's school this week, not his bubble. The family made the decision to keep the child's siblings off as well who are in different years and the head OK'd it.

refusetobeasheep · 09/10/2020 08:27

We have one whole year off as there was a positive case, and the PE department off as a staff member tested positive. All others in thankfully including my DD who did not do well during home schooling.

BrokenBrit · 09/10/2020 08:30

By opening the schools with almost no effective mitigation (No masks, no distancing, no proper ventilation), it really is sadly inevitable that all schools will be effected sooner or later.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 09/10/2020 08:31

3little - a bit hard to "keep it in perspective " when nany people have vulnerable family members.

Im well aware the kids themselves are likely to be okay. In fact the threat of asymptomatic transmission scares me.

However I might well not be. I don't want to leave them without a parent and this is the case for many families!

Poppingnostopping · 09/10/2020 08:31

One of my dd's school's has a case, they have isolated the 40 odd pupils in close contact but not the whole year group, no idea if this is going to be effective. It really is inevitable now.

Violetparis · 09/10/2020 08:34

There's 36 cases in my child's secondary school in the North West, whole year group are self isolating. Think it's going to be on/off for months.

dementedpixie · 09/10/2020 08:34

We've had 3 separate cases in our secondary school. Neither of my kids have been affected....yet

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 09/10/2020 08:41

Yes there were 2 cases in my sons school within a week of starting back. Not his bubble though.
The bubbles were closed and children told to isolate. Siblings of those isolating were able to attend school. There was couple of siblings in my sons class so I was fully expecting them to subsequently get symptoms and his class to close but it didn’t happen.
Both classes are back in school and there have been no further cases reported in school. It’s a large school as well - 3 classes per year (Primary).
I would try not to worry about it too much.

weepingwillow22 · 09/10/2020 08:44

There was a case of an infected child in my son's primart school 2 weeks ago. The bubble was sent home for 2 weeks and the school shut for 2 days for a clean. No other cases since though.

Ok then , panic over think and be anxious instead because thats really helpful! Being vulnerable does not mean certain death theres a higher chance of surviving it. But no let's not keep things in perspective Hmm
Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 09/10/2020 08:46

We had one case 3 weeks ago (not in same bubble as either of my children) bubble was sent home for 2 weeks Nobody else got it. Bubble came back. All good. Try not to worry too much (this is a large primary in London)

thebabewiththepower · 09/10/2020 08:51

We're in a low risk area and both my children's schools and the school I work in have had cases. Seemingly no transmission beyond the original cases. Isolation time should be brought down to 7 days from last contact as they are doing in other countries to prevent more disruption.

GunsAndShips · 09/10/2020 09:11

That's the rule though isn't it? If one household member has it, the rest isolate? Nothing to do with school okaying it.
SingingSands · 09/10/2020 09:16

Two cases in DS form meaning he had to isolate at home. He's been back 3 days and now isolating again as DD was tested yesterday. Hoping results are returned today. Not looking likely it's going to be negative though, DD constantly coughing. Sad

AllDoneIn · 09/10/2020 09:19

Covid is in virtually every school now I imagine. Bubbles only get pulled if you have parents with the wit and means to get their children tested. Many don't and will send asymptomatic- and sometimes blatantly symptomatic - children to school for all sorts of reasons. This is why it's spreading. It's herd immunity. Most kids will be fine. If however you're a teacher or a vulnerable parent or carer you are on borrowed time.
