We should enforce recreation times where people have to leave their house and spend time outdoors, exercising.

It's commonsensical after all. If the virus is spread by people spending time indoors, let's stop them.
We could spend £300 per family in kitting them out in decent outdoor clothing. Which would boost the retail sector.
Any other great commonsensical ideas on how to deal with Covid?

You would get people reporting people for travelling to far to exercise or not spending the precise amount of time they should be spending outside.

That all sounds very Chinese’s op. People saying things like the government tracking people via phones is why some won’t download the nhs app. I do have 3 older teens. We follow all the rules the older 2 are in bubbles of 5 at fe college my youngest is in secondary (my major concern) his bubble is 120. I know we’ve been lucky so far we are in the n/w not in lockdown (yet, it is coming though I’m sure) we’ve not had any cases at the school , again yet. We all follow the rules and will continue to do so. I work in tourism / hospitality but am lucky enough to work in the kitchen so only see 1 other staff member. We do go out atm for local walks as a family but I’m not going to go for a walk in gale force winds and torrential rain and worse.
The thoughts your supporting the independent “Covid police” which my neighbour laughably is (whole other thread) makes me speachless

actiongirl1978 Perfect! Do you know any Tory MPs or peers? If so, here’s £12bn for an innovative new acorn-based track and trace system. No experience necessary, it’s fine if you don’t have many acorns. If you lack the necessary connections, don’t worry! We’ll pass it over to Dido Harding along with a pay rise to recognise her new acorn-based responsibilities.

Heffaloomia Maybe Rishi would help the people losing their jobs in the creative industry retrain (his suggestion not mine) in supporting people with how to properly look after their dogs.

There has to be some incentive for the reporting, I'm thinking some kind of ladder reward chart, so report more and get rewards along the way. Neighbours need some incentive for reporting MIL, she can barely walk and struggles on her step but that is no excuse for her not partaking in her daily exercise.

Treesofwood · 08/10/2020 12:44

Incidentally whilst the children are collecting the acorns they could also collect conkers. There are lots of people selling conkers on ebay as spider repellants so we could kick-start the economy too, by forcing the parents to set up conker ebay shops.

I thought you were being serious and I agree Blush.

TheClaws · 08/10/2020 12:45

Trees You don't believe in this kind of thing. You're just being deliberately goady.

I would be in support of a proper system of regulating and licensing dog ownership, however this would probably mean fewer dogs as the bar to dog ownership would be much higher. Fewer dogs would mean a drop in profits for the pet industry and they would lobby the government to prevent them from doing anything which hurts their profit. So the public has to suffer the consequences of bad dog owners all in service of the profits of the pet industry ☹️
OldQueen1969 · 08/10/2020 12:51

Maybe we could enforce regulated breathing? You know, holding your breath for regular periods of time? Might improve lung capacity and then we can all become pearl divers? That could boost the economy......

Treesofwood · 08/10/2020 12:55

Megglet and theclaws
I genuinely think this is a far better plan than much of the 10pm curfew, masks on masks off if you sit down, children keep away from each other nonsense. I would rather spend money on that than lining Dido's pockets to be sure.
I was joking (being goady) about the fines and curtain twitching. I don't think we should do that for this, and I definitely don't think we should do it to stop people inviting their elderly mother in law over for tea.

And Robert Jenrick was in the radio this morning, unable to back up the ridiculous restructions imposed on the hospitality sector, (eg 10pm curfew) other than to say it was "commonsensical" which I thought was an excellent word.

If we all killed ourselves then the virus would run out of hosts and magically disappear. Climate Change (remember that) might be stopped in its tracks as well. Plus any religious believers with their spiritual passports in order get to go to heaven early and check it out.

cologne4711 · 08/10/2020 13:04

@Treesofwood

Actually, maybe we could enforce dog ownership as a way of enforcing it.
Er, no thanks.
Tootletum · 08/10/2020 13:06

Haha yes I think that's perfect! Or maybe just skip the kit, make everyone of every age go outside naked for two hours, and see who gets hypothermia. If you've died of that, you're not available to die of COVID!

Treesofwood · 08/10/2020 13:07

Jrobhatch29 · 08/10/2020 13:25

I spend all my time outdoors anyway because there's naff all else to do here

wheresmymojo · 08/10/2020 14:21

@actiongirl1978

Best idea I've heard all day. We have loads of acorns where I live.

Incentivise children to collect acorns (and maybe conkers?) to allow all cases to be recorded in case you run out of acorns?

It's a well ventilated activity and would keep them out of their parents hair.

You can also make flour out of acorns so we'd also have a back up for any further flour shortages.

Excellent idea!
