I've got a week in a self catering at half term. Just me, DH and DD. Reading today that overnight stays may be banned if you're coming from an area of high cases, which we would be.

Do people think this ban will happen? I'll be gutted if it does as I really need a break!

I’d imagine the people in the town with lower cases won’t be gutted if measures are taken. Their cases won’t stay low if people travel.

People will still travel. They just won't stay overnight. The place we're due to go is 40 miles away and if we can't go we'll do loads of day trips rather than stay in one location. Not sure that's better?

It's also frustrating as I'm coming from a university town. The area where I live there's 10 cases whereas in the student areas it's about 250. We don't leave our area (barely leave the house) but we're all lumped in as "big city" therefore high risk.

We have a self catering break booked too, booked a year ago way before Covid. We are working on the assumption we may not be able to go, we'll be happy at least having a week off school and work together otherwise.

DD has only just gone back to school after 2 weeks self isolation (teacher sick). I just want to get everyone out of the house.

It’s a bit confusing. Does it mean you can travel, if you are in a high risk area, to any holiday accommodation but only if it’s only with your own household?

Level75 · 08/10/2020 12:30

That guide is the current state of affairs. New restrictions coming Monday.

Overnight stays could mean no staying at others houses, I think in Scotland you can still can go on holiday in your family unit/bubble so holidays may still be allowed as it is different to staying with a friend or relative.

It’s like all rules since COVID, it’s a headache to understand Confused

I think there's no alternative to waiting until Monday (unless you want to try crystal ball or chicken entrails)

But I wouldn't be surprised if there was a ban in travelling between regions during the weeks covering all the various half terms.
