My grandmother is 99 and lives at home in Swansea with lots of professional help. I am going to go to see her tomorrow but I live in England (standing well away etc). Is this “essential travel” and what would my punishment be if they pull me over?

Swansea is in lockdown so no travel in and out unless for work or essential reasons i.e. if you are a carer for someone.

It’s not clear to me if providing food/medicine/emotional support once a week counts as caring.

But really I want to know what fine I am facing. I am going anyway.

I think that counts as caring and a friend travelled once a week from Gloucester to Swansea in similar circumstances.

Just make sure you have the food/meds in a prominent position and explain what you're doing.

Take a bag full of medication and essential supplies, if you’re stoped explain you are doing an essential trip for caring responsibilities. Hope you have a good time!

£60 fine if first offense (doubles each time max of £960)

I'll be honest though I live in a lockdown area but due to work have been in 3 other lockdown areas as well - never seen anyone stopped at all

"It’s not clear to me if providing food/medicine/emotional support once a week counts as caring."

It does: gov.wales/swansea-council-area-lockdown-frequently-asked-questions#section-51375

"People who are providing care or essential support, such as delivering shopping, can continue to make visits, but they should pay attention to all hygiene and social distancing precautions."

@110APiccadilly

The delivering shopping exception is awesome, thank you!

I'm in Swansea. Not aware of anyone being stopped at all, so I think that wildly be unlikely. Things are pretty normal here really.

I would personally come. We are likely to be in "lockdown" a long time. Our rate is over 100 per 100,000 and needs to be under 40 I think. So it's not like it's going to end soon.

So while she may have things being done for her, she still needs other things. it would be a caring responsibility which is allowed anyway.

Thank you. I was always going to go come hell or high water. There is absolutely no way I am leaving a 99 year old alone for months. I was just wondering what fine I was risking.
