Next week it's half term in Scotland and we're due to travel to England for a weeks holiday. The holiday company say it's fine but with new restrictions possibly coming out Monday, I don't want us to arrive Monday, then have to stay in a cottage all week with nothing to do. We are no where near the central belt, don't want to say where. But heading to the Lakes. What would you do?

If the restrictions come in for Monday I would think the latest they are announced is Sunday night. What day are you due to travel? Could you wait to see if an announcement is made before leaving?

We leave Monday morning, so if they are announced Sunday we can cancel then. I hope they get announced early.

Can you cancel without losing money?

Can you make a 'holiday' at home?

We cancelled a holiday a few weeks back because we got sick of all the changes and decided to spend less money doing nice things locally. For us we just weren't prepared to spend money with the added stress of things changing all the time.

There's nothing in the new Scottish rules that say you can't travel for a holiday. If you've got self catering accommodation booked I would go, a week in the lakes is going to be predominantly outdoors anyway and the change of scenery will do you the world of good.

Difficult, hard if you can't have a drink in a cosy pub after a walk.

But still amazing scenery and walking.

Cumbria is not part of restrictions yet and there will be amazing bird watching as they all shuffle about for winter.

I would still go and load up on mulled wine and binoculars.

Depends what you want out of a holiday but good reading material, if cottage has an open fire, lots of amazing scenery, right now that would be enough for us.

I was in the lakes the other week. Everything is predominantly outside anyway, we also had any meals outside the pubs but that was our choice.
Even if theres more restrictions you can still go for long walks and enjoy the scenery, waterfalls, lakes, etc
