symptoms after test

A lady in my office has tested positive.

Our boss arranged for us to all have tests. There were brought into work yesterday morning and this afternoon my result came back as negative.

Tonight I have a temperature! ☹️

So my question is, do I need to do another test?

You should never have been tested in the first place without symptoms.
How high is your temperature?

Our boss asked us to test, not sure where the tests are from as they arrived pretty quickly.
It’s 37.7 😕

If you have a temperature then get a test now.

Frazzled2207 · 07/10/2020 21:50

Are they definitely reliable tests? If they were just suddenly picked up then I wouldn’t trust them.
If I were you I’d try and get a “proper” test sharpish

@Frazzled2207 it was a proper test?! They had the government leaflets inside.

Yes, now you have a symptom you need to test.

The first test was unnecessary (hope it wasn't too unpleasant) because you were still within the incubation period.

A negative test during travel quarantine or contact isolation does NOT release you from quarantine/isolation.

Now that you do have a symptom you need to find out whether it is Covid or not (to find out if your social contacts need to be traced). But even if still negative, you need to stay in isolation for the 14 days since your colleagues symptoms began.

dementedpixie · 07/10/2020 21:52

37.8⁰C is whats usually the temperature that would prompt a test.

How long ago was the contact with the lady in your office? Shouldn't you all be home isolating?

@SexTrainGlue

I haven't had contact with my colleague.
She works in the same office but my desk at the other side of the building to hers!

My boss asked everyone to test and we did. There's 8 of us in the company.

I only did the test yesterday morning.

If you did have covid then you would have been contagious in the couple of days before symptoms so a test should have picked up if you were positive yesterday.
He shouldn't have got everyone to test without symptoms though

@dementedpixie

Yeah I've read that you're contagious 48 hours prior to symptoms so surely that must mean the test would pick it up.

If they were government post-it tests I’m surprised that they were done yesterday and you had results today-
Everyone I know who’s had one had to wait at least 3 days. As well as waiting a couple of days for them to arrive in the first place.

They were definitely government tests, I read the leaflet on how to do the test.
They were collected by a courier yesterday too.
I had a text and email today with the result.

Your body starts to shed the virus 48 hours before symptoms develop. If you only tested yesterday morning then, even without symptoms, it would've been picked up.

Frazzled2207 · 07/10/2020 22:58

Fair enough they must have speeded them up!
Agree you probably need to get another test. You could be negative yesterday and positive today.
That all being said my dbil rang up 111 to ask if he should get a test for his feverish son and was told not until it lasted at least 12 hours.

SexTrainGlue · 08/10/2020 06:39

It doesn't really matter whether the symptoms are covid or not. You still need the 14 day contact isolation

(Though if you had been positive, you would have gone from 14 days from contact with confirmed test to 10 days from your onset of symptoms which might have pruned a day or two off the time required (assuming you recover quickly)
