following with interest. Will they alert your employers if you claim?

rbe78 · 07/10/2020 15:49

It's worth pointing out that it's £6/week tax relief, so you'll only be getting £1.20-£2.40/week depending on your tax band.

nitgel · 07/10/2020 15:52

Yes I know rbe thinking it probably wasn't worth it.

I'm leaving it until near to the end of the tax year (will check about missing deadlines etc) as by then it will be effectively £60 for filling in a form/writing a letter, so worth it as a one off exercise.

ill they alert your employers if you claim

They will find out as it will be paid with an adjustment to your tax code, but they won't be told why this is happening, but many will be able to work it out if lots of people get the same small adjustment to their code. But only your payroll team will know and I wouldn't have thought that they would think any thing of it.

A work colleague did this two days ago and her tax code has already changed.

My tax code got changed 2 days later.

DH reckons it isn't fair to claim with everything going on. He might change his mind when our bills go up in the winter. Electricity already noticeably up, as he has a computer, IPad and two work phones constantly in front of him. I don't have the heating in in the day, DH will if he's sat still all day. Guess we have to work out if the fuel saving counteracts it.

Scottishlassie81 · 07/10/2020 16:59

I claimed this as my work offered no compensation for wfh. I got £6 per week from April - August when I was made to go back in the office. It was only £100 odd quid but I did spend more on electricity, heating etc. when I was at home so I claimed. They adjusted my tax code so I get an extra £20 a month or something til it's paid back to me. I did tick the box for a cheque but hey ho.

PurplePansy05 · 07/10/2020 17:13

Is it not the case that you need to provide the end date of wfh to claim this? Sorry, K think I read somewhere that this was the case.

What's the situation if wfh arrangement comes to an end or an individual moves on to a hybrid working mode (part-office, part-home)?

1990shopefulftm · 07/10/2020 18:21

@PurplePansy05 if you input an amount from the date that you started working from home up until now and it works out as £6 a week then they don't question it. I did mine for the date until I started mat leave but did DHs for now and then might claim again if hes WFH still in a few months.
